30 years of mass migration into London national and international, with all the strains that brings, no-one gives a fig...few weeks with some extra tourists and we have mass panic attack about crowds!

How many then?......Wonder how all the other Cities who have held the Olympics managed to cope. Dont know about you but i start work in the City at 7am and dont leave until the evening, I really doubt they are going to be a big hassle to me unless the the Archery competition starts at 6am.

I'm the same, in by about 7:15, don't leave until 6. Expect the mornings to be okay but the evenings to be a ****er, particularly if you are heading east.shammy wrote: How many then?......Wonder how all the other Cities who have held the Olympics managed to cope. TfL are expecting an extra 3m unique journeys per day on top of the 12m average.

Re: The Olympics
Depends on where you have to go to.
I am in Whitehall so will have 15,000 spectators at Horse Guards, 30,000 during the changeover, and the extra bods around in St James Park and Trafalgar Square. Event starts at 9. They want spectators there 90 minutes before (7:30ish) so the transport network will be clogged big style first thing when I come in and probably when I leave too.

Thousands of foreigners invading the area for sports you dont care about, not being able to get on trains and busses, staying at home to avoid the mass of people on your doorstop. Well enough about the problems faced by the residents of Upton Park every two weeks, I am sure we will cope with the Olympics

If only we could get the 500,000 (or whatever the figure is) they expect to come to Upton Park for a game at the Boleyn!
If I don't take a fortnight off, I'm coming in by boat. Expensive, but very relaxing.

Re: The Olympics
Looking forward to it. Bit annoyed I haven't got any tickets for anything but will try and take in some of the free events and all the stuff surrounding it. Olympic flame is going past the end of my road on a weekend so will probably go and have a look at that.

Re: The Olympics
Was thrilled when we got the games, and I'm sure I'll get excited when it gets closer, but a lot of my enthusiasm has been dampened over the past few years.
Crap marketing, logos, mascots etc
Tacky lego stadium
Tacky lego stadium that may well be future home of WHUFC
Load of scrap metal posing as 'art' next to stadium/future home of WHUFC
Having seen GB contribution to closing of Beijing, certainty that Opening Ceremony will be a national embarrassment (hope I'm wrong)
'Plastic Brits' changing allegiance at the last minute (worse still, to be accepted and given captaincy of team in one case)
Dugs cheats back in (allbeit not our fault)
Beckham carrying the flag, never mind competing, will be the ultimate insult, the triumph of celebrity over Olympic values
Still looking forward to it though.

I'm a district nurse in newham, and trust me getting to some of the most vulnerable people based in the community promptly is going to be an utter **** at any time of the day.shammy wrote: Dont know about you but i start work in the City at 7am and dont leave until the evening, I really doubt they are going to be a big hassle to me unless the the Archery competition starts at 6am.

Re: The Olympics
Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm genuinely looking forward to the entire circus, but then I don't work in town any more, hardly ever have to go through Stratford and will be keeping as far away from it as humanly possible. On a clear day I can see the top of the stadium from the platform of my local station and that's as near as I plan to get to it until it's all overNXA wrote:Now we have 100 days to go.
I hope i may be a bit more interested when starts but at the moment i just think it will be a nightmare living in London.
Is anyone looking forward to this.
Re: The Olympics
East London has benefited from the vast changes in infrastructure due to the Olympics. I am sorry but using words like "vunerable" and "community" doesnt lead me to believe that we would have been better off without the Games.
Re: The Olympics
Shammy it was a direct answer to yours that you'll be unaffected. great for you, I'm really ****ing happy for you.
That isn't the case for everyone. As I have pointed out.
Now take your patronising speech marks and poke them up your arse.

Re: The Olympics
If i did that I would be a "vunerable" victim in your "community" and i would have to call you  for help.
Re: The Olympics
being a moron isn't the same as being vulnerable, you'll have to find someone else to help

Re: The Olympics
A three week party paid for by us and enjoyed by the liberal elite, it epitomises everything that was wrong under New Labour and when the wanna-be Socialist, Chardonnay swilling ex-public schoolboys return to their desks at the BBC it will be us poor mugs who are left with the bill.
"A new shopping centre? The shopping centre has nothing to do with the Olympics! Lots of jobs? On the contrary, short terms construction jobs very few of which went to people from the East End.
Sky recently analysed the costs of the Olympics at £24billion. The claims for legacy are simply rubbish. The housing for the Athletes Village was going to be built anyway, more of it and not at public expense. There are no transport infrastructure improvements, both the DLR link to Canning Town and the Overground were going to be built anyway. The new park is not the largest in Europe for 150 years as the ODA goes on saying. The Olympics does not stimulate sports participation and there are no health benefits. Tourism is likely to decline, as was seen in previous Games, because other tourists stay away. The park has not been properly cleaned up and is covered with a plastic sheet warning developers further remediation is needed. A part of London has been surrounded with an electric fence and getting on for £2billion will be spent on security for this three week jamboree!
The Olympics is a circus with free luxury accommodation provided for a self-perpetuating oligarchy called the Olympic family who get to ride around London in special lanes."
Personally, going to bugger off to my bolthole in the Peloponnese for the duration (usually go a bit later to avoid the boreathon that is the Bournemouth Air Show) and drink Mythos in the sun.
