BTW, the bit in bold was nicked from the BBC blog of Mr.Roger Mosey. He has now closed his blog for comments as people were beginning to post against the party line

What gives you the impression I'm a "do-gooder"?

I'm quite happy to accept my nasty side, it's a bit more honest than fake offence.

Do you honestly think it would have been any different if the port and brandy swigging Tories or the coalition had been in power during the bidding process or the first part of the lead up to the games?

While I agree the distribution of tickets could/should have been better and "fairer" the same criticism could be levelled at most, if not all, major global sporting events but I think you underestimate the capacity of the proles to embrace and enjoy the spectacle.

Enjoy your Mythos. I bet it rains though :D

both.

I became a DN in December, but continue to work in ITU doing bank shifts. I'm in the process of going back to ITU as community services in general are so poorly provisioned to deal with the upcoming shift towards community care and GP commissioning. I should be back full time in ITU just before the olympics hits Newham if I time it right

Serious question ...are you fellas in the Ambulance service getting bonuses or normal work patterns etc
Are you having a laugh?

All leave, except that which has already been accepted will now be refused (They aren't allowed to cancel leave otherwise they would have done).

Those of us that have volunteered to work on the sites (Me) had to sign an agreement to say we won't take any leave during July and August (Not a problem for me as I've used all my leave following my poor excuse of a football team).

As for bonuses, the only way we will be getting any extra money is by doing extra overtime shifts.

If only we worked for TFL.

Has it? What has been added then?

Jubilee line was already there. DLR and Overground changes were already happening and had bugger all to do with the Olympics.

I think moaning should be made one of the Olympic events. We'd win Gold, Silver and Bronze.

There is a good chance that the transport system will work and will work well. People may actually be able to go about their everyday business without any problems.

But in the meantime we'll all make hasty conclusions that it'll be a cluster f***.

It can just about cope during the rush hour now, let alone an extra couple of hundred thousand journeys a day

Pull yourself together you saps. Until we actually get there, no one actually knows whether this is going to be a nightmare, well apart from the hang ringers that want this to be a monumental cock up, who coincidentally are the lazy berks that say they won't beable to get to work and will moan even if it's a raging success.

My job for the last 6 months, has been working on my Head Offices response to the Olympics and determining how we can get around the expected disruptions. Having attended many a sh*t meeting with my lot and other Government Departments, I can safely say no one has faith in the transport network to cope. If they did, we would not be trying to reduce our presence by 50% over the 2 weeks of the Olympics.

The Beach Volleyball at Horse Guards has 4 sessions a day, each with 15,000 spectators. You could assume that, at it's worst, there will be 120,000 extra journeys just into/out of Westminster/Whitehall area. An extra 60,000 people on the streets over the day in addition to the tourists who will turn up just to be there.

It will be chaos.

It will be busy, but chaos?
Do you guys have a meeting every Winter and hold your head in your hands when you realise how many extra people will be in London in the Summer? I never see any difference when i commute in January or July but there are a million extra people in London in the Summer. Sure London will be busy this year, If a khasi like Athens managed to cope im sure London can.
