so what?
if you sign a player and he gets injured without having played once, you still pay him.
it doesn't matter how he got injured (while on loan, while training, while taking a dump), it's your player, you pay him.[/quote]

Wow thats some dump if it ends your career :D

Difficult scenario now. Were leaking goals (due to injuries and unsettled defence imo), and we don't look like a side that can afford to ship goals and score enough ourselves to earn a draw or win at the moment.

Tricky balancing act now for Sam and the board, complicated by if Diame goes as that was an area we looked fairly strong in. I think we should try and pick up 2 defenders by the end of the window if possible, need some pace at the back apart from Reid. Get back to keeping clean sheets and keeping games tight.

We will. As deadline approaches a combination of selling clubs getting desperate and buying clubs getting desperate will mean that we'll get at least one player in. How good they might be is a different issue though!

Neither do I ~ Not just defensive players either. I don't think we wil be signing anybody else this window, not even unnown Africans from France. Dave's don't want to dip into their pockets any further for the mo.

Care to make a bet Puff?

If we sign a player or two you stop whinging about them being tight or not wanting to spend money (or any other crap about their spending) until the summer window

If we don't, I won't comment on the crap you post until the summer window

Not to get too off-topic, but how does introducing a 75% rate of income tax for the wealthy in anyway sound like a sensible policy? Not really sustainable and doesn't even guarantee higher tax receipts! I would shake the hand of any man or woman who would happily give away that much of their wages to right the mistakes of last economically incompetent government (not saying that this lot are any better!).

Back to transfers though, and I agree Westcliff. The board have already sent they wont be bent over and we're out of PL loans. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

We are not just restricted to Premier League loans though are we?

I think the rules state you are allowed to loan a maximum of 4 players at one time, 8 in total per season.
This complex system is regulated by many intricate rules that can cross differing jurisdictions.
I believe that a Premiership club can only loan two players on long term loans, from fellow Premiership clubs (max of 4 deals per season). The remaining 2 places can be made up of short term deals or players brought in from the continent.

Short term is defined as 31 to 93 days I think

Time is running out a Centreback and left back are very much needed. Will the owners do what is required to ensure we stay in this league and dip into their vast personal fortune or will they go down the cheap route again?

What worries me is in their three years here they have only spent two transfer fee's on defenders and one was Reid which has been a great signing in the end so why are they so scared?

I am not defending it but just to point out it's a marginal rate - so you only pay that on the slice of your income above a certain level.

Carry on.

Every window we get this, and every window the owners do well. of course they will sign defenders, but it usually happens in the last few days. The selling club needs to check the market and sort out replacements, it´s a domino game.

I added Collins but you beat me to it :) Gmc was free or next to nothing being an old Sunderland cast off so not a proper transfer fee.We need to get Olson signed Blackburn ain't going to accept £2m for Sweden's first choice left back who is only 24 he is worth at least double that. Then there must be a defender we can buy from France or Germany for a couple of mill?
