Well Cole is coming to the end of his contract, we had a chance for a nominal fee and the opportunity certainly in the case of Adebayor to bring in a better player to raise the standard of the squad. Adebayor could have had a real impact second half of the season, more so than Cole so I can totally understand the reasoning whether Carroll is fit or not.

The whole objective should be to look to continue to raise the standard of the squad. It would be Allardyce's problem to fid out who to pick and leave on the bench. The top clubs have had these same problems for years, good to see us finally having these difficult match day decisions to make

Is anyone too bothered? I thought we were at our best when Sakho and Valencia were up top.
totally agree, the whole shape looked good when those two were up top, all about having options

I agree, but at the same time, that's assuming that the opposition haven't figured out how to stop that formation - which basically involves marking Downing.

I don't think it's quite as straightforward as that

So moving on, the window is now over. Apparently we have significant funds for the summer, youth setup seems to be getting a re-vamp, some clear-outs on one side and new contract offers on the other side.

Seems to be needed due to lack of progress from that area (although still unconvinced about Allardyce giving youth a chance) but in saying that we appear to have some potential good ones.

Lots to be optimistic about, lets just get over the Sakho situation as soon as possible with FIFA so we can concentrate on getting a good second half of the season underway.

I’m hoping for,
1. Valencia to be the star of the second half of the season (I think it’s all there, just needs to find the net a couple of times to boost the confidence)
2. Young young players to be bloodied, Poyet and maybe Burke.
3. Reid to put all the speculation to rest and actually sign a new deal (won’t happen but would be great)
4. For the summer - Jenkinson and Song to sign on permanently

Not bad if the above actually happens, but lets face it we’ll probably get 0 out of 4

Yes, we probably could have done with a centre back, and another striker.

But how many good signings have we ever made in January?! Other than Kitson/Hartson, who were before the windows were a thing, can't think of any that have had a lasting impression. Usually we get a Nocerino/Amero/Wellington Paulista that we get excited about and Sam never plays because they're not 'his' signings. Glad we didn't sign Fletcher up for a long big money deal, with his recent record he had to be a loan/pay as you play.

I am worried about our next run of games, think we'll struggle to pick up many points before March. But 99% sure we won't go down this season

Certainly in a much better situation than a year ago!

Let's see it spent more wisely in the summer

stop being sensible, FFS

Ask yourself ? Are you not gutted , truly gutted, we didn't add on 2 spurs rejects on deadline day? What about the Man U injury prone player on a 3 year deal ??

Listen closely and you'll hear the sound of knees jerking and panic setting in

Club cant win, don't buy and we've handled it terribly, buy sh** and its typical West Ham

In terms of targets we were linked with this week, there's almost none who we should feel too disappointed to miss out on. And not signing Fletcher for the best part of the next 4 years is the result of the window for us.

Still think not getting a 4th CB is going to hit us hard at some point though (possibly this week?). If you consider that every place in the league is worth £1.6m, then saving the £2m or so wages it would cost to bring in a 4th choice for 6 months could prove to be a false economy.

It's certainly tempting fate since we may not even get past the Hawthorns, but I keep viewing our squad needs this season now in terms of cup finals. It would be a tragedy to blow it at the sharp end because we're playing a teenager at CB or we had no specialist LB if Cresswell was unavailable.

Targets missed - yes, and (depending on just how crocked our lads are) we could have done with another centre half.

But on the good side despite lots of rumours to the contrary we've ended up losing no first teamers. As a basic line in the sand I'd have settled for that before the window opened.

Next Summer is a big window for us. The last one to bed players in before he OS move. Get those 'significant funds' at the ready Daves.

Hang on, did I just read Sully made an attempt yesterday to sign Ezequiel Lavezzi?!

Surely not.

By Martin Lipton on Kicca

"That West ham January transfer window striker story in full: failed to sign Remy because of FIFA rules; failed to re-engage Zarate because of PL rules; failed to offload a player they have already released twice (Cole); failed to sign a striker the other club doesn't want (Adebayor); failed to sign a striker who wanted to come (Gomis) and now facing being booted out of the FA Cup over the striker they kept (Sakho). David Gold and David Sullivan, stand forward and take a bow."

Remarkable how Fletcher passes a medical at West Brom, yet fails it with us after we change our mind and ask for a loan instead of a permanent transfer

They don't exist.

The only way they will/would exist is by finishing somewhere like 6th and qualifying for Europe. Drifting back to midtable will wipe millions from any potential budget.

It will be the usual £20 million or so in TV money, but with Jenkinson, Song and Reid possibly gone.

They'll have to spend it all just to stand still.

What's all this about give youth a chance!!! You lot have been blinded by all that yellow you looked at yesterday! Do you forget who the manager is? Roger has been released from Wolves and I won't be surprised to see him here on a short term contract!

I don't blame the manager, I blame the wide-boys running our club for putting us in a situation where we could get kicked out the FA Cup
