I've just read that the Spanish press is reporting we are considering ending Alex Song's loan deal early because of an ongoing ankle problem... Very odd.

But if we could get El Shaaraway here and firing alongside Payet and Lanzini that would share rival defences s**tless...would also add to our silly haircut quota too

We needed players with silly haircuts, I've been banging on about that for over a year now and what a difference it has made to our performances ! We still need one with either a Zorro, or Phantom of the Opera mask though

Despite midfield being our strongest covered area The Sun is linking us with AC Milan's Keisuke Honda:

"West Ham set for a £5m move for AC Milan’s Keisuke Honda in January (Sun)"

Mods: May I please suggest the first person to make a joke about this player having a 'good engine' is given an immediate ban?

Sounds fair.

He'd be a great signing though, imaging him motoring up and down the pitch alongside the rest.

We should loan Honda at first and if there are any problems at least he can be recalled. Not that I have heard there are any problems with Honda yet.

Can we just nip the rubbish Honda puns in the bud now please gentlemen, and keep to the subject matter in hand, rather than clutter up the thread.

Thank you.

^^ :D

In all seriousness, Honda would be an astute signing. A quality player out of favour at Milan.

He is 29 so no resale value. However £5m if the reports are true is low not to matter. A 3 year contract with an option for 1 would be perfectly acceptable.

I don't think you can ever have enough midfielders tbh. Look at the top clubs, they are stacked with them. Breaking down stubborn defences is the number one issue.

Injuries and fatigue will affect us sooner or later. Currently I feel that if either Payet or Lanzini miss games it will disproportionately hurt us. They really make us tick. The addition of a player like Honda would solve that.

Yes, but would he leave Milan's bench / reserves just to be back-up for Payet and Lanzini?

The 'top clubs' are playing in Europe, so rotate accordingly.

I'd hope we are prioritising our budget for decent cover in the Full-Back positions. Although the prospect of selling a few shirts in Japan may well contribute to that budget!

Very little if any 'dead wood' to cut. It'll take very good players to improve this squad further.

IF there is money kicking around I'd like them to concentrate on tieing up Lanzini and Jenks on full contracts. No harm in not waiting until the Summer and approaching Arsenal now.

with you 100% on that mate. I think a bit of continuity will count for more than a new face unless they're a real world beater
