Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
Carroll is perfect for Liverpool as a player from the bench when they are playing teams like Southampton and Palace who sit deep and Liverpool struggle to break them down.
Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
Carroll has a long(ish) deal on big money with us. Why would he go anywhere else when he doesn't have to? Could only see him leaving to go to the Geordies, and they're probably mental enough to sign him.
I'll pay £20 to the BMF if he goes to Liverpool.

I'd much prefer Origi from Liverpool.

Transfer Window Bingo:
"Like a new signing"
"One or two but the squad is really strong when fit"
"Working night and day"
"Agents wanted ridiculous amount of money"

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
Carroll's probably the only one of our current lot of strikers we shouldn't be letting go - ifs, buts, and maybes of course, but when he's fit he's such a good player for us and leaps ahead of any other striker in the squad in terms of quality.
Sturridge - I'd like him here. Injuries aside, he's a class above the strikers we have as well. Same goes for Wilshere. There's not a world in which those two players don't improve us as a team. The only issue is the injuries, but unfortunately that's the position we are in. We want to attract 'top name' players to go with the stadium and keep it full, but no 'top name' player with a clean bill of health is likely to be attracted to us. So to get someone like that we have to take a risk on a Sturridge or Wilshere, a player with an injury history, and nurse them to get them to play as much as possible.
I personally think it's the wrong strategy and we'd be much better off following what's worked for us in terms of giving top Championship players a leg up or unearthing well scouted gems from abroad and making them stars, ala Cresswell, Antonio, Obiang, Lanzini etc. But clearly the club don't see it that way and won't take that route for a whole window - they are desperate to sign somebody who's name can be wrapped around our stadium in lights to get someone to come and watch us who might not otherwise. It's why we were (supposedly) chasing Lacazette and Bacca and Batshuayi last summer, and why we'll probably chase Sturridge and Batshuayi (among others) this.
Unfortunately, I can already see this being a summer like last year where all areas of the squad that really need improving, like the defence, are put on the back burner unless we are desperate (see: Zabaleta on a free at right back) or the striker search is nearly over and we've spent some money. Almost all of our non-free business, including loans, last summer wasn't completed until they'd opened the wallets and stumped up £20m big ones for Ayew. It's almost like we've got to make that 'big' signing before we can be bothered to think about the little bits.

You are right, he is a class above anything else we have when he is fully fit.YorksHammer wrote:Carroll's probably the only one of our current lot of strikers we shouldn't be letting go - ifs, buts, and maybes of course, but when he's fit he's such a good player for us and leaps ahead of any other striker in the squad in terms of quality.
The thing I have never liked about having him in the squad is the way Carroll being on the pitch influences the way we play. Less so under Bilic TBF, but that temptation to bypass the midfield is always there especially when Carroll is not fully fit and is lumbering around the pitch. He has also clearly influenced the other attacking players we sign which plays a part in us having a disjointed squad.
If we used him more like Swansea use llorente then I think I would have much less of an issue with him and actually he would probably be more effective.
Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
Obiang, Wilshere and Lanzini playing behind Sturridge, Antonio and Ayew/Left-Winger would cause no end of problems for opposition defences next season. That will be a fun 20 minutes or however long we can get them on the pitch all at the same time.

Cheers, can't get much more ITK than that, great stuff. Hopefully getting dropped last season has given him a kick up the aris and he'll be in top form next season.

If we sign Iheanacho I take full credit.
I've been banging on about him for months and tweeting his name at Jack Sullivan whenever I'm bored at work.
Thank me when he fires us into Europe.
