Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
^^^ Of course it is. Never mind that it's season ticket renewal time, can anybody really see Rooney saying "Yep, West Ham is the club for me"?
Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
If we want to move up to the next level why on earth would we want to sign Rooney???
we should be looking at younger and better prospects and stop signing players past there prime
we now have the stadium with good funds and we now need
a) possibly a new manager who can take us on to the next level (not saying bilic is not however some transfers were not up to scratch
b) younger talent with prospects
c) Board members who do not continue to medal in transfers over and above the manager

We had a better chance of signing Lacazette than Rooney.
If he leaves Man U he will 100% go to Everton.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
Other clubs who are looking to progress normally sign younger players who will develop. Only desperate clubs sign older has beens or those looking to just make do who stand still in their progression. Only remarkable players should be the exception.
If Hart, Sagna, Zabaleta, Defoe and Rooney is the limit of the club's imagination then I despair.

1 picture in a newspaper of Rooney junior in a Adrian West Ham shirt and sky say we are in for him.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
Pickford would be a brilliant signing (Has a lot of potential and is very good already)
Trippier but Spurs are hard to deal with and will definitely want a lot more than he's worth
Jenkinson but i think he fell out with Slav
Iorfa? Not really heard much about him

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
From a footballing point of view Rooney would be fantastic id see him partnering Lanzini in attacking midfield and given a license to roam a bit!
Financially I think it would depend on how it affects other potential signings if it's at the cost of us properly investing in the striker and right back positions then there really isn't any point
In fact it's all make belief because it's tactics from our cheap owners but there we go!

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
I brought an end to 56 years of going to Upton Park with the Man United game at the end of last season. I couldn't bring myself to move and will never go to another home game. I haven't missed it as much as I thought but even if I had, the thought of Rooney in the Claret and Blue (unless Brady has plans for the shirt of course) would persuade me I'd made the right decision not to chase after the club that was taken from me.

Why is that, out of interest?

Not seen him mentioned on here for a while, but I think we'd do well to look at Bas Dost from Sporting.

On the Rooney/Sky article;
West Ham are planning on spending big money in the transfer window this summer. Top of their shopping list are a proven international-level striker and a right back.

When I've spent a decade or more despising someone as a horrible human being and a cheating git as a player I'd rather not be expected to applaud him. Particularly now he's over the hill yet still fawned over by the media. Idealistic I know.

They've missed out "ageing" on the striker part.Jeffcoate321 wrote:On the Rooney/Sky article;

Screw 'proven international', bring in Iheanacho.Jeffcoate321 wrote:On the Rooney/Sky article;

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
I think the problem is they've bought in so many strikers since being at the club (which has been well documented quite recently) that this 'proven international' is likely to be the only way they feel they can go.thejackhammer wrote:Screw 'proven international', bring in Iheanacho.
Saying that, all went well with Zaza didn't it...

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
'Proven international' is such a stupid phrase. Mohammad Al-Sahlawi could turn up if we're just looking for a proven international, he's got 26 goals in 28 games for Saudi Arabia, 90 in 164 for his current club Al-Nassr.
Really, it's just 'we want a top striker'. Nothing new.

I've never really understood this, get these comments every year, surely no one renews based on the prospect/ actual signing of a star?
If that's the case, I'd rather that sort of fan didn't bother renewing, frankly...
