Boxing thread

Post by leeo272 »

After Hatton v Mayweather I thought it might be nice to keep a thread going.

It's Malignaggi v Ngoudjo tonight. Althought fewer things would make me happier than to see Malignaggi get his face weaved into the canvass I reckon a straight forward points win for him tonight. Unless this Herman fella is a bigger mug than most expect.

Yeah I'm looking forward to the Calzaghe/Hopkins and Maccarinelli/Haye fights which are both on Setanta. I think both the Welshmen will win their respective fights.

Johansson's pulled out of the Mitchell fight due to injury.

I'm really looking forward to Haye v Enzo.

Calzaghe v Hopkins isn't one I'm looking forward to.

Mitchell is a great fighter and personally think stepping up to fight Khan would be a great fight in the mould of Benn v Eubank.

Still not 100% convinced by Khan and think some of the classier, harder punchers in his division will cause him a great deal of trouble.

He will win easily tomorrow against Torres, Mitchell could go all the way though.

This is live on Setanta and his Brother Vinny is also fighting. I hear a lot of Hammers go to his fights.. There's a clip on YouTube of some Notlob Khan fans having a pop with some Hammers inside the arena. :crest:

Battered him.
Kevin Mitchell made light work of Venezuelan journeyman Edison Torres as the Commonwealth super-featherweight champion stopped his opponent in the third round of their non-title fight on Saturday evening, live on Setanta Sports.

Many think 2008 will be a big year for Dagenham fighter Mitchell and he certainly started it in style with this comfortable and thoroughly one-sided bruising victory after what had been a week of uncertainty.

Torres had to step in as third-choice fighter for the bout after initial opponent Carl Johanneson picked up a back injury, ending Mitchell’s hopes of a British title attempt.

He was then expected to fight Ghanaian Thomas Aryeetey, who would have challenged for the Commonweakth crown, but again the opponent had to pull out after failing the British Boxing Board of Control medical , leaving Torres to step in for the ten-round contest.

Make that the three-round contest.

Mitchell caught Torres with blow after blow in the two opening rounds, the South American fighter clearly not up to the Englishman’s level as he was constantly dazed.

In truth, referee Ian John-Lewis probably let the fight go on for far too long before eventually waving it off midway through round three, Torres needing a supply of oxegen to recover from the siege of Mitchell punches.

Now, unbeaten in 25 fights, Mitchell is keen to see the Johanneson fight rescheduled for March 8 on the undercard of the titanic world cruiserweight title unification showdown between Enzo Maccarinelli and David Haye, which will be live on Setanta Sports.

That Danish fella has pulled out of the Khan fight.

Any chance of Mitchell getting it I wonder?

Wouldn't have minded seeing this weekend's heavyweight fight between hopeful prospect Mark "Oak Tree" Brown and Bernard "Bad Ass" Brown - Round 1 DQ (in favour of Mark Brown) that turned into a wrestling match, body-slams and all that...

Last week in the Torygraph they had an interview with Mitchell and in it he says one of his worse sporting moments is us losing the 2006 F.A Cup final.
