A good manager, and some investment in the right areas, and I would be expecting us to be midtable, and a cup quarter final.
Chuck, you really know how to hold the reader's interest until the final page......

Re: Don't sack ZolaChuck
Fair enough . Of the two you whittlled it down to , I'd prefer the Scotsman . Only 2 places above Zola though ? Can't see many posters on this board settling for that - it does kinda support my view that it's players that matter .
Re: Don't sack Zola
I couldnt give a toss about the rest of the board PP. Many of them are idiots. There is a massive difference - in terms of fan outlook - between being 10-15th all season but looking steady, maybe blooding some young players, trying some stuff out, selling Upson, and bringing in three players in January, than slumping into the bottom three, and potentially only staying up on goal difference. Of course players matter, but you are underestimating the difference between an average manager - I consider most that I mentioned to be above average - and Zola. I honestly think that only the shocking sets of circumstances at the clubs below us that have kept us up. The manager that Zola was meant to be , and the players that we were meant to have should have us 10th-12th all day long. Some of us saw it early, but as I say, there are plenty of stupid people on this site. For sure.
Re: Don't sack Zola
Not sure I agree with the circumstances comment Chuck . Pompey might have put up more fight . Might have .Hull and Burnley though are just pure crap . I wouldn't argue at all though that 34 points from 37 games is relegation form in virtually any other season .
Re: Don't sack Zolaanyone who went to any games, from blackburn away though to fulham away, and everything in between would struggle to make an argument about him being a manager at all, let alone a good one...just awfull. If Avram grant can make his team of misfits play as they have, wolves,. bolton turn it around and play football etc...Im sorry to say, we're laughably bad under his lovely, but frankly, ****ing useless chap.
see ya
Re: Don't sack Zola
I would like to categorically state that I did not do this. The fact my cock was out at the time is purely co-incidental.
Re: Don't sack Zola
I'm sure they are are all thrilled to hear your opinion of them
Re: Don't sack Zola****ing good job your on here then chuck not like the rest of us with our tongues stuck on our monitors
Re: Don't sack ZolaHes got to go, no question. When were on top he seems ok but when things are going badly he freezes- clueless.
When Zola and clarke first took over they were always up and giving instructions. When we in that relegation battle they sat there bye bye.
Re: Don't sack Zola
Tongues? This must be where I am going wrong. I thought we were supposed to wiping them with something else!
Re: Don't sack ZolaI genuinely cannot see any rational argument for keeping Zola as manager. There are people on here saying that he has done a good job by keeping us up bearing in mind the strife the club was in but I just don't buy that at all.We stayed up purely because there were three absolutely ***** teams below and even with all the crap going on the players that we were able to field should have been far,far better than the performances that we put in.That is down to management. There is no fear of the manager from our players and tactics, strategy and selection are poor.If we have him as manger next year we have ignored the biggest warning in our history and we deserve all that comes to us.If it costs 10 mill to get rid of the pair of them it will be money well spent because the alternative is disaster.

Re: Don't sack Zola
The crowd have generally been quite restrained in their criticism of Zola, he's been given a lot of slack for the reasons we're all well aware of. The owners are fully capable of making their own decisions for their own reasons.
Re: Don't sack ZolaMy only reservation about condemning him is that we do have a genuinely poor squad and always looked like ending up near the bottom..
Using the 1 - 10 ratings system, whilst the Hulls and Burnleys and Boltons etc may have all 5's and 6's, average players who will provide a reasonable atacking threat and defend well against all but the best opponents, we have an unsupportable amount of 2's and 3's who are blunt in attack and will always leak goals. That we have a quality spine is not in doubt and probably those 3 or 4 players are better than those our rivals possess, but they have not been enough to carry the five or six passengers who do not contribute. So a novice manager is only third in our list of problems...behind a poor squad and an unsupportive board who are unable to strengthen. Without details of Zola's imput into the contentious signings it is not possible to make a final decision regarding him.
Re: Don't sack ZolaGFZ on the dog to Easyjet tonight-
Hi,can I get a ticket to Sardinia for Monday? Easyjet desk: Would that be a single or return ,Mr.Zola? For definite.I wanna a single, one way,not-coming-back-type ticket Any baggage? Yeah ,plenty lots and its all coloured claret and blue. First Class? Yeah,I 'm about to clean up ,so why not. Aren't you worried about flying through the ash? Nah,my career's in ashes,so what the hell.
Re: Don't sack ZolaIs Zola still here?
Re: Don't sack Zola
Chuck I think you've been proven right with much of what you've spent months saying - I have no problem admitting that. But don't make the mistake of dismissing those of us who chose to support Zola as stupid. I'm not stupid and I gave my support to Zola. I now think I was mistaken, but I also think that, in the context of events over recent seasons at our beloved club, that, though unsuccesful in many areas, that Zola was no worse than some of our recent dimwitted managers. My conclusion is that Roeder, Curbishley and Zola have damaged West Ham and only Pardew in recent years could be satisfied with his record at the club. I'd have him back on Monday
Re: Don't sack ZolaEven when Roeder was incharge of West Ham the year we went down he (with a little help from ST) managed to get 42 points. Zolas 32 points is just a joke. Nice guy, great player, **** manager.
Re: Don't sack Zola
Agree, Zola has not been hounded out at all and received very little criticism inside the stadium. In fact only Wolves this season. At the majority of other clubs he would have been sacked by now, although most other clubs wouln't have appointed him in the first place. The most obvious failings of Zola have nothing to do with the state of the board but the lack of ability of Zola as a manager.
