I seem to recall posting on a number of threads how different our season might have been had the likes of LBM, Hines, Ashton & Dyer been available all season .

LBM was excellent today , as he was for a lot of last season ( forget for a moment the Liverpool away game if you will) , and should be given a one year extension imo .

Daprela did well today , and MDC is coming along ok , but what a soft goal to give away .

Boa Morte had his best game for us, in the most pointless game of our current season against opponents who couldn't care less about the result. He also happens to be out of contract in the summer.

I'm still not buying this Boa Morte is the answer story that people continue to plug.

2/50....He had a terrible time with us, but judge him on this seasons performances...A goal a game....

Remember he WAS playing in the shadow of Nigel Quashie..

Lets not get carried away with LBM. I haven't ever faulted the guy on effort and in fact this season we could have done with him against the grafting teams. Lets not forget that this guy cant hit a cows arse with a banjo...

Nor is he that great at creating, passing and beating people. However yes we don't have a winger who compares at the moment, which is probably why we're down the bottom.

As for Kovac well he is a poor excuse for a footballer. I was disgusted when we resigned him.

Daprella looks a lot better than spector and doesn't look like a dear in the headlights once he gets past the halfway line.

Cole and Ilan were pretty useless today. Cole couldn't even do his primary role of holding onto the ball upfield. Constantly balls were knocked upto him granted not always the best balls yet they came back just as quick. Ilan constantly bottled it in good positions.

So , do we have a better option at present ? One thats going to be fit for next season .

Are we really going to discard a decent player , one who may accept a lower wage for the next 2 seasons , when we're skint ?

fjthegrey: You are building a big case against him.

If he had been playing for us at todays level all season our position would have been a lot healthier.

Or ditto, if Kovak,Behrami or Noble had performed to this standard.

LBM is to wear the No.9 shirt next season, on £2000 a week.

£1000 of it is bonus if he hits the cow's arse

Daprela, Stanislas or one of the many others who are one the verge of breaking through to our first team.

I think Daprela looks like a decent left winger. I'd prefer him there with a decent defensive left back behind him.

Boa is finished, he's only going to slow down and if his wages are anything near what has been reported, how much do you genuinely expect him to drop by? I'd not be happy if he was on anything more than 15-20k a week on a rolling year by year deal.

Why does a player have to be "the answer" to our problems? The question should whether he is better than what we have or are likely to get?

We do seem to look a better side when he is playing. This based on previous season's performances rather than today's game but consider how long he's been out he did very well today.

I had a funny feeling that LBM would come good today, & would suddenly lead to some serious chin stroking.

What I think can unquestionably be said about him, whatever his performances in the past for us, is that he is always lively, he's always been a player for us who's not been afraid to fly about, win the ball, shout at the referee, win free kicks, lose the ball.. Even when he was 'public enemy #1' with the crowd, he never stopped being what he is, a decent, hardworking & most importantly passionate, if not always great, footballer, & one who plays for his team.

I'm also in the camp that does not believe our season would have been greatly different if he'd have been fit though. I don't think, in all honesty, that some of the tactical oddities & lackluster team performances would have been transformed by a LBM enough. I think he would have got frustrated & had 1 or 2 reds this year & yeah, we would have been a better team in a few games.. But even if we'd had LBM, Collison, etc for the whole year, I don't think it would have changed the tactical mistakes & management errors this year.

Thought it was one of the best, and most fluid, set ups weve seen t,his season. Boa was hard to track as were Ilan and Diamanti. A real shame we couldnt have shown the same class against, say, Wolves.

Just fwiw, there was nothing wrong with Kovac's performance today and he has consistently been decent for us, more so than Noble or Behrami this season.

First thing - I think everyone is quite aware now -at least they bloody should be - that Boa Morte went from being an attacking player, to being a deeper energetic midfielder a long time ago.
So let's not focus too much on his goalscoring rate, shall we?

Mike420 wrote:Lets not forget that this guy cant hit a cows arse with a banjo...

How does that differ to Valon Behrami,- West Ham's 'wouldn't sell him for £10m' midfield 'hero' who also has 2 goals in like 50 odd games and spends half the match chasing about the balls he has given away?

irving boleyn wrote:Believe me Boa Morte had a great half at both ends....

His best performance for us...Against some very classy opponents.

See, this wasn't one of his best performances for us.
All it was, was Boa Morte putting in the same kind of shift that he always has done, as well as showing good signs of play and ability from last season too, all the while, showing more commitment than nearly all the rest of our team.

The reason it appears to be such a 'great' performance, is that people haven't realised exactly how much he has been missed.

It's the sort of performance he's always stuck in.

Yet the same people that boo him and call him a ****, are those same that cheer on an opposition forward that was **** for us, for 20 games, before coming good for 10, then leaving at the end of the season.
Also, cheering the Italian chap who missed games for us away from home, sulked off back to Italy, undermined his manager and was a menace despite being a brilliant player when he wanted to be.

Funny ol' game, innit?
