West Ham Utd 5 Burnley 1 (21/02/11)Moderator: Gnome Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadfmgod,
As i mentioned i know the physical demands are very different to my football. However these are trained professionals, i am not. They should train there bodies to be able to play 2 games a week.....to not play because of being tired would be a joke. It is more of a moan to people saying 'rest players' on here for a 5th round FA Cup game against a team our reserves would probably be equal with. I would like to think every West Ham player is dying to play in every game. Maybe if i played a season of premiership football i would understand but as i don't resting players is something i dont understand......especially after 9 days without a game!!
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread
But they are breaking their bones, damaging their bodies a lot more as they are going at 100mph while normal football is say 20mph, therefore they are probably going to break their bodies quicker due to the physicla intensity of training x times a week and then playing a match
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadBut they are trained for there bodies to cope with these demands..... agree they are more liable to injuries (although some Sunday mornings i would have to disagree) but i dont agree with fatigue.
Eddie Izzard i believe ran x amount of marathons in x amount of days (sorry not sure of the exact figure) but i am sure its an amazing amount. Now he trained his body to be able to deal with the demands of doing this. He completed every marathon with 1 day rest throughout the whole event. Again i apologise fmgod probably not the best comparison to football but its shows how training makes the body cope. In this case. Do you think it is acceptable to rest players after having 9 days without a game?
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread
I can understand that point of view, to a degree. We do have a fair amount of time before the next league game, and I agree certain players would benefit from extra playing time to work on partnerships and the system. Da Costa is a good example of a player who would probably benefit more from playing, especially if either Upson or Tomkins are fully ready for a return and would be able to work on the partnership with the Liverpool game in mind. Yet that doesn't apply so much for other players, some of whom do look like they'd benefit more from a rest than they would from playing. Scott Parker being the obvious example, and I'd say Noble as well. 2 players who know the system and have a good understanding already. Ba is another example of a player for whom the rest might be more helpful, as he hasn't played 2 on the trot for a while, especially seeing how Keane was affected by two games back to back, when he hadn't played for a while So I'd say it's a case of balancing between the two. I wouldn't pick anyone who is anything less than 100%. Some players, especially those who haven't played much in the last few games, could probably do with some time on the pitch. I'd try and play a few from Hines, Sears, Barrera, Faubert, Spector, and balance that against a core of regular starters
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadThe only 3 players I want to see 'rested' are Parker, Jacobsen and Bridge. The reason being that Parker is essential to our survival and Bridge and Jacobsen are our ONLY fullbacks - and I think it's complete madness to risk losing any of them to injury in this particular match. Had we gained a few extra points from the previous 2 matches I may have thought differently, but now I think preserving these 3 for the league is essential.
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread
I doesn't really matter what you think 'should' be the case, the fact is that the more they play the more they get injured. Look at what happened to Keane. All other clubs rotate their players when they can, so why shouldn't we. It's also statistics. Why take the risk of a player getting injured in a random accident when you don't need to? We really do not need to lose Cole, Piq or Ba at the moment - likewise Noble, Parker, Bridge, Jacobson or any more central defenders.

Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread@ Stu
With regards to players who have been out for a while, I agree. With Parker I'd say it should be up to him. If he is deemed to be fit enough to be in the squad, he should play. Same with Noble. Imo it is a very good opportunity to mould the team. Shouldn't risk a player, but if the players are tired, then give them a few days off between the games.
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadSaid earlier in the thread, our best eleven should start. With Liverpool up next in the league and Ba in the squad, its an excellent opportunity to get the midfield used to a new up top pairing out off piq/cole/ba. That could be crucial for Obinna as well. Injuries could happen, but they can happen in any game as we know. I would think every first team player would want to be in this match.
Whether Grant, will see this as an opportunity to take advantage of the comeback against Brom and keep the momentum going, remains to be seen. If we can bang in 5 goals like we did last time against Burnley, the players will be well up for Liverpool. Although they should be for every game as thats what their payed to do. ................................Green........................................ ......Jacobsen...........Tomkins..........Upson...........Bridge ......O'Neil................Noble..............Parker...........Obinna ...............................BA.................Cole......................... Subs: Stech, Faubert, DaCosta, Hitz, Spector, Piq, Sears.
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadIs this game definitely on TV on ESPN?
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadWith Big Mac available for selection, the competition for places up front will be intense...
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadNot sure if I've missed it but have the club announced any ticket pre-registration scheme should we beat Burnley and subsequently two more teams to reach the Cup Final?
As it worked so well for the Carling Cup, I for one, would like to register now.
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread
How many of those marathons did Eddie win?
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadI had a whopping great turd today. One of those ones that instead of hearing 'splash' you here 'slap' where the pan is so full.
Just thought I would post that as half the posts on here are as relevant to this thread as that one. If you want to take up a couple of pages digging the ins and outs of resting players, start your own ****ing thread, don't **** up a match thread. ffs, poxy FM playing melons that think they know the fitness and the level of playing in the PL as they played a few sunday league games in their twenties. Chalk and cheese for crying out loud.
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadWe were told on here the other day that we would beat Milan, so this should be a walk in the park .
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread
We would beat Milan, right before losing 3-0 to Wigan! Just the West Ham way...
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadI'm not happy with the draw being made before the match. The draw should not be made until all matches have been played, I can't remember this ever having happened before.
Going to have a good beer before the game so will probably miss most of it as my bladder isn't what it used to be.
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match threadJust had a butchers on the oline ticket sales and it would appear we have still about 17k seats so shift. So someones guess earlier in thread of only getting 20k could be correct. How kieron things have become.
Re: West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread
