West Ham United vs Stoke: Match Thread

Postby UptonHammer on Sun Feb 27, 2011 7:50 pm

We desperately need another 3 points here, a great result against Liverpool should give us plenty of confidence,

Any thoughts and predictions for the game?

Demba Ba is going to be right up for this, 3-0 Ba hat trick.

Coureee its gonna be madness when Obinna and Ba are in the starting line up together they are both going to be banging them in from anywhere on the pitch

Stoke will obviously provide a massive aerial threat and that is what we have a struggled with the most this season. For that reason it will be a very close game and alot will depend on Upson and Tomkins - they are both good defenders on their day but from a constant aerial bombardment I'm not so sure. As outrageous as it may sound, I would be seriously considering Da Costa for this, just for his aerial ability.

Apart from that - same again please.

Make no mistake lads, this will be a tough game. We must be focused and back to back wins at this stage of the season are priceless.

Stoke are going to pose us a completely different set of problems that Liverpool did. Important we don't get sucked into playing lumpball and keep passing it through the midfield.

Pushing in the advertising hoardings and removing all towels from E13 would also help

team picks itself if they all remain fit. Same 11 to start, same tactics. Playing with the same tempo ought to be able to over-run stoke. Ba will, as said above, be seriously up for this one.

Its the old addage "one game at a time". We must not take our eye of the ball here and play a different style just because we go to Stoke the following week in the FA Cup. We have momentum going with a league comeback draw, cup win and league win. We have goals in this team and we need to keep them flying in as honestly clean sheets are going to be hard. Only changes to today, barring injuries, Cole/Ba up top to start and perhaps Obinna as well. Must say though Piq is really good with defensive headers from Corners and long throws. It will be a physical game as we know, but if we can get the ball on the deck and the passing going, we'll win. Today we earnt back our loss to Brum, its key we make it count against Stoke.

I'd go with the same side that won today.

If Keane is back then he can start on the bench and come on for the last 20.

Avram may well be tempted to put Da Costa in as he's probably our best centre half in the air and Stoke will no doubt be lumping it in the box.

Hopefully we'll get a better result than the home game with them last March - I remember coming out of Upton Park in the pissing down rain and just thinking "f*** it - we're down".

How wrong I was! :D

Just as i said the day he signed for us, i want him to score a hat-trick against Stoke.
Don't know if it will happen, but he's deffinately getting more used to English football and improving each game.
Same team as today please, although i'd like to see Sears at some point.

We've just come off consecutive victories but haven't had them in the premier league this season. We need to if we are to stay up though and i think we will. We have really upped our game of late.

I was there that day and thought exactly the same thing. Sitting in BMU, head in hands, soaking wet, nasty day. We got lucky though and stayed up. Now, we have to earn it.
