Nearest pub to the OS

Anyone got an idea as to the nearest pub to our new home, or we taking the Boleyn brick by brick and sticking it on the OS island

Is it the lighthouse on wick lane? Or has it been demolished to make way for the olympics?

I had a little browse of google earth and there doesn't seem to be many places to go for a drink, I would imagine in and around the town there will be a couple of places, but also don't be too surprised to see a few pubs pub up in the area within the next 2 or 3 years )

Railway Tavern on the road towards Leyton just over the bridge is where I will probably end up every game, plus my cousin lives over the road from it, theres the wetherspoons on Maryland Point cant think of many more

I had a bit of a scout around on Sunday after the game. In the bit of Stratford I was in, by the Stratford Centre, there was the Langthorne (big, lots of sports screens, a good bet for a pre-match pint), the Builders Arms (looked a bit dodgy), one in the middle of a high-rise council estate which was the closest but looked very dodgy, and Ye Old Black Bull (looked decent, but they were showing the rugby rather than the cup final so I went to the Langthorne instead).

I'm sure there's a few more around. I would guess though it is the best part of a mile to the stadium from here - it looked a long way off. I'm sure they'll be a few watering holes in the Westfield Centre too when it's open.

Yep thats the one and the Olympic site is literally opposite it, was brought up in there when they had the Railway Club behind it but now its just the pub.

I expect there to be loads of places built, restaurants and modern bars around the new shopping centre.

Probably be The Railway for me as well. Had some good nights in there and used to know the owner a bit.....

i expect westfield to have a few in...but bet they will be overpriced ect

It's been a few years since I've been in there, admittedly, but the last time I was there was one huge row... claret and glass everywhere.... and that was karaoke night (and no, I wasn't singing before anyone asks).

currently, the nearest pub to the stadium is the The Lighthouse in Wick Lane. 5/10 minute walk to the stadium entrance at most over the bridge to the Olympic Stadium Island.

Had an explore before the Stoke game.

Tried the Builders Arms first on the rationale that this would be the only old pub I was aware of on the way from the station to the new ground if you wanted to avoid the new Shopping centre **shudder**

Enjoyed that, roomy yet fairly traditional and I think will become a big football pub.

King Edward Vii (King of Prussia??) on the Broadway was very good too, in the Black Lion style if more gastro. Seemed popular and busy, worth a visit for the good beer and old style feel.

Black Bull on the way back to watch the late game and have a livener. Decent pub again.

Plenty more to try in Stratford and Maryland.

Would like to think that after the move I’ll still visit the Black Lion which is near enough to hopefully still draw football crowds who can then walk to football, ideally up the Greenway I think.

There’ll be plenty of new stuff opening up, probably glitzy chainy stuff so not my cup of tea.

If the club have any nowse they’ll open a riverside drinking locations by the ground, that’d be so pleasant when the weathers half decent, they’d clean up.

While i was out driving today, i looked at the Princess of Wales next to the canal in Lea Bridge Road & wondered whether thats the same canal that leads into the Olympic park?
Would be great to drink there & then head up the canal to the match, but at the speed those canal boats travel, would need to set out the day before!

Worked in Stratford for a while.

Fair few ok pubs there. Drank in Yates, the Black Bull, the King Ed, the Fox, The Goose, - never went the Builders.

Much better than Upton Park. Stratford is much better than Green Street in almost every way.

Transport, pubs, eateries - and that's before it gets done up.

Not being familiar with these canals, are there any locks enroute? I guess there are speed limits, so nobody can set up a speedboat shuttle service?

What's the name of that lovely olde worlde boozer in Stratford High Road, right smack bang opposite that church in the middle of the road ? That is one of the best pubs in the land. A smashing pub which serves great beer and does very good food too, or at least, it used to. I think it even does fishcakes !

Aka King Edward vii. Still there. Beer still good.

Changed it's name during ww1 for patriotic reasons. Apparently it's still known as the Prussian by some.
