Wish they'd have another look at rebuilding the East Stand
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to CloseHow could West Ham afford that? We'd need a mega rich owner that loved West Ham United so much they'd give up the potential cash cow at the OS and plough millions and millions into regenerating something that is already maxed out and exhausted.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
Surely youv just described our current owners.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close& all West Ham's past owners. Who in their right mind would consider redeveloping the East Stand now? With the OS on offer??
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
Also there is issues with the flats and the road will still exist so I guess the restrictions would still apply... Anyway if they did build it it would be another extra 20 minutes to get into the station!!
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to CloseThe OS move isn't viable for a football club and it isn't widely popular with our fans.
East Stand had planning permission and would have cost 50m bringing in an extra 12m a year. Its the sensible option
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
That 50 million would probably be 150million now! It i what I would have wanted as well but that was in a time long ago now.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to CloseThe east stand redevelopment would have cost £9m (the West Stand was £35m 'cos of the extras) and total capacity would have been 42,500 - 45k with the corners filled.
And that is the absolute maximum. Not enough for a London team to stay viable absent a dodgy Ruskie. Levy gets this. How come you lot can't?
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
Do you think we would fill a 42-45,000 seater Upton Park?
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to CloseApplied for in the summer of 2006 so I don't think the cost would have rocketed to 150m you can build a ground for that.
Pedant 45k is enough easily for West Ham and we get to play at a proper football ground, Levy gets that the track won't work.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to CloseIts probably closing because we're moving.
It's makes the bus depot site a valuable component in the redevelopment of a large area including the ground and I'm guessing maybe some of the hosing nearby.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
That's a good point, they might think it's worth more while we are selling the Boleyn Ground.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
The 2006 application was for a total capacity of 40,356 and was withdrawn by the club, this may have been linked to demands that we agree to fund transport infrastructure improvements before permission was granted.. Duxbury claimed to have made a further application in 2009 but there is no evidence that this was ever submitted.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
What would be your plan if we were unable to get planning permission?
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to CloseChances are it would be accepted, 1st thing i'd do was move the touchline closer to the East Stand. In terms of increasing atmosphere their ain't much else you can do without expanding other stands.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
If only!! 3 years till the worst day in the history of West Ham.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
45k isn't enough for West Ham to stay viable? It would be the most we have ever had in our history and yet it isn't viable? Perhaps you are confusing viable with being big and successful. Moving to the OS isn't going to guarantee viability or big and successful - but it might make a difference. However, it aint going to happen overnight. I'd take a Boleyn packed with 45k for 10 years or so every day of the week. 10 years of that and then we can make another decision to be bigger and more successful. There will be an empty shell of a stadium in Stratford by that time just waiting for another chance.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
Sorry, got to push you on this. "Chances are" is too risky. We know that parking restrictions have been tightened up around the ground, so it's very conceivable that there would be greater local opposition this time round as a result. This could potentially be even more vociferous due to the lack of a working underground system for many of the games, meaning even more people driving in. Parking now can be difficult with capacity at 30K-35K. The burden of 45K trying to get into an area where, quite often, there would be no train alternative, would be a central theme in any any objection to future planning permission. Therefore, I think assuming planning permission would be granted is extremely risky. It could be rejected, so the question still stands. What would we do if it was rejected?
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to CloseNewham want more people using Public transport to get the games so I think to gain planning permission we'd need to appease the council. The underground situation needs reviewing the ticket hall at Upton Park is far to cramped for the amount of people using it and causes queues, more trains would help solve this as well. I imagine we'd need to contribute money towards his but not massive amounts.
Re: Bus Depot behind East Stand to Close
Yes Do you think we're Fulham or something?
