The irony of which was not lost on me last night as I was driving home between Rainham and Sittingbourne at about 7ish to have a CAFC coach going back the other way having dropped off somewhere in Medway Towns. One thing I didnt mention last night in my after match thoughts was what an absolute gentleman Sir Trevor Brooking is. Before the game he was in the main car park posing for photos and signing autographs. He must of been there 15-20 minutes and was as gracious as ever. My eldest was made up with his signed programme and it was a good start to the day. Thanks Sir Trev

My main problem today was lack of workrate ...making options. Far too many times there were players standing still instead of making runs and giving movement.
Ref was atrocious...how was that NOT a pen. Hold your head in shame shorty.
You are mistaken on Faubert. He spent the first half dealing very well with their best striker and went forward a number of times. He then obviously got injured which explains the lack of overlapping runs late on. I agree Piq has lost his way and is the new old carlton cole (if you see what I mean)

I saw that far to often and I think that's a big problem of ours. They just look static to often and I wish someone would just move off the ball from midfield or up front it opens space and gives us options.

[quote="Dan1326"]What are their excuses for not showing extended highlights of West Ham who are seperated from 1st place by goal difference.[quote]
IMHO - that's what make the Football League show a far better programme than MoTD - because there are more games to cover, there is less chat and less focus all the time on the sides that are top.....plus you don't have to put up the interminable drone that is Messrs Lineker, Hansen, Shearer and Lawro

Beyond this game, there are some longer term issues people can be unhappy with, fine. BUT I can not accept some of the moaning about yesterday's performance. Whilst it lacked quality at times: - we just lost 2 on the bounce so had to get back to winning ways (by any means necessary I'm anti-BFS tactics BTW) - bare bones squad with players out of position and tactics suffering (eg little support for faubert). - all players put in a proper shift - had a blatent peno turned down, created 2 or 3 really good chances (cole from nobes through ball, piq in 6yrd box). - didn't feel threatened by their attacks (save for set pieces- longer issues BFS needs to do address). - was quite enjoyable day (embarrassment of hammerman, cat, carew talking to mascot in the wheelchair at start of game even though he didn't have to). Merry Christmas you miserable b@stards!

Agree it was a good win under the circumstances but they did have at least 2 clear cut chances. In the first half Tomkins (I think got turned) and one of their strikers had a clear shot on goal but hit the side netting. In the second half they had a clear header from a corner which took a fantastic save from Green to keep out.

Fair point mate. They were clear cut chances. Suppose what i'm trying to say- normally i'm well anxious when the other side attack but yesterday just didnt feel it. I felt comfortable our extremely makeshift defence would cope (apart from at set pieces) which is real credit to how well we did under the circumstances. Although he has about as much skill as my left bollock, diop played a big role there.

Disappointing to see that the decision to play Noble and Diop together had to be been forced on Sam.
It IS the best combination.

Just got home from a hectic weekend West ham in the afternoon and the manics at the O2 in the evening .Best moment of yesterday apart from the cat running the full length of the rio from the corner of the east stand / BM was the debut of young Potts he was outstanding along with Cole, Noble ,Tompkins and Faubert. Was a dull game with the ref causing one of the loudest chants of the afternoon. Manics were brilliant btw.

Firstly, RIP to the fella who passed away, I noticed something going on but didn't think too much of it at the time.
It was brilliant to have a packed out stadium and luckily for me I didn't have any of the 'day trippers' around me so It didn't annoy me at all. Nolan should not have been MOTM it should have been Pottsy or Noble for their brilliant performances. The cat was brilliant and I haven't seen that much pace in a long time, just hope it got home safely.
Hammerhead was a laugh, despite the awful intro, looking forward to seeing him wind up opposition fans later in the season.
Allardyce getting sent off was hilarious as well, arguing, then sitting in with the fans etc, even brought out a little chant from those behind me in the STBL, it's great to see a manager [and team] with a bit of passion at this club after the dismal few seasons.

For balance, West Ham are massively represented on BBC London, for full-match live radio commentary. Our matches far outnumber Palace, Watford, Millwall put together. They show extended highlights of half the Premiership games over a 75 minute programme. The one following it covers three leagues. Our highlights yesterday were admittedly short, but we get our fair share, generally.

I like how last season the complaint was 'they always show loads of the games of the big teams and we always get stuck on at the end' and now we're in the Championship and we are one of the 'big teams' there are calls for us to get headline billing and loads of coverage even when we scrape a 1-0 win over Barnsley at home. I don't think we can complain about the coverage we've received. Several games on TV and we're often a major game on the Football League Show. Obviously, there's going to be less coverage than last season because the number of people who care about the football league is 5-10% of those that are interested in the premier league.

When i saw our line up with the absense of faye and young potts at left back i feared we would lose.Under the circumstances this was a very good result.the unusual patched up back 4 did very well.
As for picuionne, how poor is he.He is so lazy and casual and doesnt seem that interested or bothered,he shows no aggression or desire at all.piss poor.I dont understand why he keeps making the starting line up as IMO he offers us very little.

I think it's more because they didn't show three major incidents in the game, namely; 1st penalty appeal A cat out performing some of the players Allardyce getting in the stands If this happened at any club in the championship I would like to see highlights of it.

I thought considering the team and losing Faye in the warm up it was a good 3 points. A classic it certainly wasn't but over the season this could be the match that everyone says was the turning point in winning the championship. The most impressive players for me were Noble, Dioup and Potts. Here's hoping we sign a left midfielder, central defencer and another quick striker in the window and then it's premier league here we come.

Delighted with that result yesterday. We was well up against it going into the game with the side we had. So unbalanced and a lack of any pace in the side other than Faubert and Cole was clear to see. Barnsley aswell have scored a lot of goals of late and we done well to restrict them to one or two decent chances.
Diop MOTM for me. Got the goal and the thing i like about him is that no matter what he will put in that tackle. Sometimes sloppy, but expected as he is slowing down. Cole worked hard and it was a shame he mucked up that one where he rounded the keeper.
Great to see young Potts out there. What a left foot???
