Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)Foreigners rule !!
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)I noticed that, too.
Yesterday, one of their top 'fans representatives' called it 'absolute bollox'. Today he says it may have some legs. Something about red being a lucky colour in Malaysia. Cardiff 'Redbirds'?. Can't see it myself. They'd be sick as parrots. (see what I did there?)
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
sounds like a baseball team
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)FC Red Bull Salzburg.
Red Bull wanted a team, and they bought one. Result -> New name, new colours.
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
I remember a good few years back that Coventry wanted to change their name to Coventry Talbot, due to their sponsoship from the car firm. However the league vetoed it

Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)Shocking really, can't believe the reasons for re branding and changing the identity of their club. Usually organizations will re brand to attract more fans, this is killing what loyal support they have.
Could not even fathom if our owners decided to re brand WHUFC
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)Give our board a few years STL, and you might have to...
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)Dont see a real problem, their blue kit is hardly iconic. The idea is to rebrand them "Red Dragons", associating them more with the Welsh national team makes sense to me afterall they see themselves as the Welsh representative in an English league anyway.
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
The blue is iconic to the Cardiff fan. If we had potential new owners who wanted to build on the 1966 West Ham world cup winners theme and change our kit to red and white we'd be up in arms about it. Football has sold out and history/tradition means F all these days I'm afraid.
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
All very well, but unless its stated in the terms of sale then any new owners can do as they please. "If you sup with the devil you need to use a long spoon"

"If you sup with the devil you need to use a long spoon"[/quote] Shammy- The thing is that if someone changed West Ham's colours to red and white or whatever, and our crossed hammers were discarded in favour of a badge with with the Olympic Stadium as it's centre piece then I suspect not many of us would be 'supping with the devil'. We'd be fighting it and if we lost (as you say the owners can do what they want) we'd be abandoning it. I can just about understand the twisted logic in it. They are considering trying to create a team for Wales but it'll fail. A big percentage of City fans will turn their backs on them and fans from other parts of Wales will not replace them in sufficient numbers as they have no affinity with Cardiff. If there are legs to this story I hope it's just the owners flying a kite rather than them being absolutely set on it. Last edited by DaveWHU1964 on Wed May 09, 2012 8:15 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
We don't have Owners that 5 years ago had never heard abut our Club though or had absolutely ZERO interest in it. English football selling it's soul once again to foreign people with foreign ideas..
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)Bobby-
Don't call them English- they will get even grumpier than they normally are.
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)There are some precedents for such changes to "tradition". Don Revie changed Leeds kit to white and Crystal Palace changed from the Glaziers to the Eagles.
The part I find the strangest is that they want to increase the capacity when they couldnt sell out a play off semi final against the greatest team in the land.
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)Welsh clubs shouldn't be allowed to play in the English league anyway..
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
I heard a foreign buyer was coming in for Total Network Solutions....they are gonna rip up their traditions and even tamper with that iconic name...got to be gutted for the fans.
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
There's probably as many clubs who play in a different coloured shirt to that they wore when first formed as those who don't. Thames Ironworks, royal blue? Man Utd/Newton Heath, yellow and green... Liverpool, blue and white halves... Everton, black then pink... Orient have played in white, then blue, now red!
Re: Cardiff City rebranded? (non-WHU)
not sure if thats what they call a troll post.but TNS are "The New Saints" and have been for the last 5 or 6 seasons.
