Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadModerator: Gnome Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadI really don't want to see any more "slow" wingers at the club.We want pace and youth. To all the plums who would be happy to be Bolton Mk2 - Remember that when they were doing it for BFS they were 5-6 years younger. The odd "golden oldie" is fine, but this club needs a balance and realism is required.Yakubu for a year on a free and a relatively high wage ,ok.Holt for £4m+ on a three year deal - no way.
Cole,Yak,Maynard,Vaz Te and a loan like Lukaku is more than enough without shelling out a transfer fee.If we could get rid of Piquionne added to Carew, the salary shouldn't be much more either. Cuellar on a free could provide cover at CB and RB and would probably be cheaper,in wages, than Faye and Faubert. Where we do need to shell out is DM and a Celtic supporting mate reckons Wanyama is the business and can play CB as well! A player like Richardson would be great to cover LB and LW, with McCartney coming in also. That would just leave RW and he would certainly fit the bill as being a good investment. Transfer fees for three players - Richardson,Wanyama and Zaha, with Yak,Cuellar,McCartney and a loan of Lukaku and any other last minute covers, should do nicely, added to Jussi,of course.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadRe. the ITK stuff
Taking Aztec Hammer as example, this is a new user without much posting history giving out fairly specific info about a target, all of which would normally start the alarm bells ringing. He may prove to be completely wrong, but I choose to believe what he's posting in this case because he's not given it the big 'un when doing it, has given a vague outline of how he's come by the info and avoids using terms like 'will' in favour of ones like 'may'. On the other hand, certain unnamed users with longer histories may post up extremely detailed information that I choose to dismiss out of hand. Again, I may be wrong and they may ultimately prove to be right, but in general if it looks like bullsh1t and sounds like bullsh1t, then it's usually bullsh1t. And posting up info that is so intricately detailed that probably only David Sullivan and Sam himself could possibly know all of it doesn't pass the smell test. Think a certain amount of common sense from both sides has to come into play
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadFar too sensible ashbanki
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadI'd certainly be happy with Richardson covering the left side and Yossi the right. Both good in attack and in covering their fullbacks.
Less happy at the prospect of the Yakubu, but as Aceface says his stats over the past 10 years or so are as good as anyone's. Don't know why then there's that ambivalence - maybe his lazy gait gives a false impression? I can just imagine how the home fans would treat him the first time he gave up a ball... My in laws are Everton season ticket holders and I go to Goodison quite a bit. When I last saw the Yak up there, he came on promptly scored and everyone went home happy but still moaning about his workrate/age/injuries etc. He should be loved, but I don't think he is - weird.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
I'm of the view that at least one of those two will make an appearance at the Boleyn next season .
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
Fair dos, to be honest I'm just taking it as given that this manager will think of the signings as part of the whole for a change, as opposed to the last PL window where it seemed we just signed players with no plan for how they would slot into the team or work with each other. And I don't disagree that Yakubu only makes sense if we get in some players who can deliver the ball to him - playing Collison on the wing isn't going to cut it if we want to get the best out of a potential Yakubu signing.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadRichardson is only 27, think he could be a great signing.. Probably just needs a fresh challenge.
Wasn't that long ago he was in the England squad was it?
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
It seems to me as if his Everton spell was the anomoly and the rest of his career the real Yakubu. But for a lot of people they judge him based entirely on that spell. Here are his career stats - Everton spell highlighted 37 (16) 30 (13) 34 (13) 37 (12) 2 (0) ________________________ 29 (15) 14 (4) 25 (5) 14 (1) / Leicester spell 20 (11) ________________________ 30 (17) So outside of his Everton spell he's scored 12+ league goals every season he's been in the PL. And even during his less stellar Everton spell, he had one season with 15 league goals, followed by an injury-shortened season with a decent scoring percentage, before one and a half seasons of admittedly being a bit gash before his return to form at Leicester and Blackburn. All these posts make it sound like I want to bum Yakubu, but to be honest I'm probably hoping for someone a bit more exciting as well. But I do feel that if we did get him, he would be a better signing than many are giving him credit for
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
Hi Pinky. I guess, to coin McEnroe, you are not being serious? Samba only went to oil barons 6 months ago for over 12m and Ronnie seems to have taken early retirement back home signing for someone I've never heard of 3 days ago.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadSigning Holt can go do one though. This season's DJ Campbell
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
Well, we might sign Angelina Jolie if you're lucky. Otherwise any port in a storm and all that....
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadI did mention Jefferson Montero on the WC Qualifiers thread and if we sign him I'll be well chuffed. I can walk around in my home town, see loads of West Ham shirts and have people buying me drinks and treating me to dinners etc.
Highly improbable though. sadfacedcryingemoticonthingy.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
He´s not a midfielder, has played left back his entire career, don´t know were you get the LM from (football manager?). Currently second choice for Sweden, behind Martin Olsson, no shame in that. Had Martin Olsson on the sidelines for a long while, and I always found him solid, until he had that horrible game against Holland away, lost his place in the team, an even in the squad. His confidence seems to be back now and he had a solid game against Iceland. Would be a decent signing, better than Ringo IMO. Was highly regarded at Basel.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
Doc, I'm deadly serious . A black Russian is a nice drink, but a poor lifestyle choice as I suspect Samba has found out .He will be back in the PL this coming season , the only question is where .
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadTPP to a club that can afford £12m and 80k pw wages that rules us out
My prediction for mr Samba is a move to France PSG.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadLazy striker = Poacher
Yakubu doesn't come back to defend or chase down so he is available to take the scraps which as far as I know Cole doesn't even get in position for enough.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadThe Rumour with Wanyama just reminds me of this........... Sign him up and I can hear the crowd chant

Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadSnodgrass wouldn't be a bad shout, but still would like to see Zaha here, think he has got lots of potential.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours ThreadWould signing Holt not be similar to when we signed Deano from Norwich ? Deano had one fairly good season in the prem but hadn't really set any division alight. Ok, He was good and we chose to gamble £7.5m on him and it worked. I'd happily do the same with Holt.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
Er, Ashton was 23 when we signed him, Holt is 31. Last edited by Dyl on Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.
