It's a bit like that on here, of late, as it seems we've had a lot of yanks posting.
A lot of support for the US, and whilst I do get the feeling that they kind of know what they're talking about, it's all bloody greek to me
Rosters, programs, turnovers, soccer....

The US networks are probably furious that the match doesn't stop for erectile dysfunction ad breaks every 10 minutes. Watching sport on tv in the US of A is one of the most painful experiences one could ever suffer.

That's strange, b/c all of our TV soccer commentators are English. Err, maybe you have a point.

Didn't read the article, still, I wouldn't worry too much, all ye from crusty old Blighty. The younger generations that are embracing the game here are by and large adopting European traditions of support, minus the occasional log cutter after a kicked goal conversion. Lots of singing, chanting, banter, calling themselves ultras etc. Not so many pom poms, laser shows or announcers imploring clap alongs. Besides, if we Yanks didn't do the things we do, what would you have to sneer about? You need us to blow off steam, like a grumpy old dog growling at a puppy from its porch.

Admittedly, I did give up trying to get into the NFL for this reason. ****ing excruciating all the stoppages, I don't know how anyone puts up with it! I tried for the course of the season, not 1 game. I won't be back next seasonAndyCarrollsBarber wrote:The US networks are probably furious that the match doesn't stop for erectile dysfunction ad breaks every 10 minutes. Take West Ham out of the equation and I'd rather watch NFL, MLB and NHL over the English Premier League.
Not basketball, though. Hate basketball. I'd sooner watch myself poohing into a cereal bowl.

Those of us who watch the game and enjoy it understand how all this works. The New York Times famously doesn't get sports at all. It's not representative of our sports press. It's not really representative of anything.

They have a good point. Stoppage time is odd.
But then again, so is the goalkeeper, throw ins, corners, indirect/direct free kicks.

Re: The USA don't really get soccer.....
I think they have a point, really the clock should be stopped when the ball goes out of play and a game should be exactly 90 mins (maybe 5 minutes less). Doing so would completely remove time wasting.
The problem is games where there are a lot of stoppages as they could go on a long time.
