Semi Finals: Netherlands v Argentina

Post by Puff Daddy »

Sao Paolo: k/o 9:00 pm

Repeat of the 1978 World Cup Final. I thought we would see an all European Final, but Argentina will be boosted by seeing their near neighbours capitulation to Germany last night and will be keen to rub the dirt even deeper into their faces. Since Sao Paolo is about as close to the Argentine border as you can get, this is virtually a home match for them, but the Netherlands are the better all round team and Van Gaal is by far the better technician of the two managers; so I think this is all set up for another compulsive night's viewing

This top heavy Argentina side suits Holland down to the ground. I'm going for a Holland win with a masterclass counter attacking performance

I think the Argies might nick it on pens. Robben to miss the crucial one.

Having successfully predicted last night's 7-1 win to Germany, I will try and make it 2 out of 2.

Holland 3-1 after extra time.

It comes to something when you want the Argies as you feel they hold the moral high ground.

2-1, last minute penalty hopefully. Re-run of the 1986 and 1990 finals on Sunday.

I think it might work the other way round, argies sitting deep and countering the Dutch, will be fascinating to see how it pans out

2-0 Holland. Argentina will be too defensive and Holland will go for it.

Conceded 3 goals. Won every game. Defensively haven't looked even remotely troubled since the knockout round began. Belgium didn't get a sniff against them.

I think argentina's defensive capabilities are hugely underestimated.

Yup, one of the best defenses in the tournament.

Again, I'm hoping for both teams to lose......

I didn't mean it like that and I completely agree, Argentina's deference has been good. By 'top heavy' I meant a lot of attackers on the pitch. Meaning when Holland do hit them on the counter they may be left short of bodies running back to help out

Very interesting game this. As someone mentioned above, maybe it'll turn out to be the Dutch playing mainly on the font foot with Argentina countering. Who knows

Wanting Holland, expecting Argies. Too much fire power and raw brilliance up top. 2-1.

Switzerland and Belgium defended stoically against Argentina. They still found a way through. Hollands defensive setup is inferior to both those teams in my opinion. I expect the efficient Argy machine to roll on.

I used to have a soft spot for the dutch, having grown up with their teams of the '70s but their behaviour in the world cup in 2010 made me think twice and now that they've gone from thugs to cheats, I just can't bring myself to cheer them on.
As for Argentina, well I don't really have anything against the team apart from their getting away with that "Malvinas" banner, which should have been punished, as the totally non-corrupt FIFA have a very strict "No politics" policy.....

Head says 2-0 to Argentina... Heart couldn't give a flying one.

Can't stand the Argies, can't stand Robben. I'm leaning towards Argentina though as I'd love to see Messi grace a World Cup final.
