Re: The Transfer Window Poll
I think it's a yes from me at this early stage.
But I'll share the concerns of others, not sure about the keeper and central defence looks a bit weak.

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
I can't be happy with it.
I feel we gambled poorly on Valencia and Sakho. Leaves us with Cole for a lot of the season. Nedded quality CF.
IMO,
Left with Collins who's past it and Tomkins who is going backwards at CH. Needed quality CH.
Kouyate will be OK for us.
Cresswell will get tonked defensively.
Poyet good for future.
No PL class GK at club.
Songs attitude is poor and will not prove a good signing. never, ever ever ever sign players from Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Zarate will fade away and I can't see him starting 12 games.
Obsessed with signing bargains rather than addressing problem areas and paying the going rate.

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
Voted yes.
Not worried about the 4th CB. Choose 1 from JOB, Demel, Song, Kouyate, Burke, Potts, Chambers. That's 7 options for 4th choice CB.
We couldn't upgrade everywhere this window, but the extra youth and athleticism mean that next Summer the CB and possibly goalkeeper issue can be addressed with a couple of quality purchases.
Unlike others I think there will be goals in the team, with the option to make changes from the bench.

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
Improvements at LB, RB and CM. Interested to see if Valencia, Sakho and Zarate pan out.
The only departure I have a twinge of regret about is Diame as I think we played him out of position last year. I bet Hull play him through the centre on Monday week (and it's already certain he'll score against us).
On balance a very good window.

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
Undecided.
Positives - Younger players than the usual tired old hasbeens.
At last a proper DM ( and just like buses two come along!)
A pair of young FBs.
A proper winger/playmaker who has the ability to change games(whether or not he does depends on him and how he's used, imo)
Two free scoring forwards (albeit in a different continent and lesser opponents)
A young CM who could turn out to be a diamond, if he's as good as his dad was.
Negative - A young unproven LB, who, if he struggles/gets injured or fails to improve the defensive side of his game, has a lot on his shoulders considering he has worse back up than a LB that was let go.Added to that is the fact that he is the only left footed defender, as we have left three go!
Three CBs which was somewhat of an Achilles heal last season has remained unchanged.
An attacking transfer policy that smacks of an undermined manager and, therefore, possibly yet more round pegs or benchwarming.
There is a very good matchday squad (if all fit) but the biggest question is whether the manager can adapt to those players' strengths or just bend them to fit his, imo.

I think I read he's played CB all his whole career right up until last season. With Song as well I really don't see why so many people are worried about having a specialised 4th choice center halfSoulCircus wrote:Re: Kouyate, I'm sure he played CB for the majority of last season for Anderlecht. I can see why some might not want him in defence, given how well he's started in the midfield holding role, but if he does have to fill in as CB, it's not like we don't have anyone else who can play that role. Song & Poyet are more than capable
I guess the one area I do have concerns over is the 'keeper. I do like Adrian, although the jury's still out, imo, on whether he is a top 'keeper or just a pretty decent one. But I do have concerns about Jussi, and would be worried if we had to play him for an extended period
But overall, it's been a fantastic window imo

.
thank the lord we missed out on that Fabregas and Di Maria, relegation would've been a dead cert
Re: The Transfer Window Poll
I fully appreciate the excitement caused by Song signing, but it's a mistake.
We need hungry players not prime donnas who have caused problems at clubs a lot bigger than ours.

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
The issue isn't that Kouyate can't fill in at the back, he's more than capable. It's more that neither Tomkins or Collins are really good enough to be starting week in week out.We needed a first choice starting cb, not a back up we already have those. Still all about opinions I guess.

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
Best transfer window I've known since they introduced them a few years back, shame to lose Diame to a rival for league position but he just wasn't producing his best for us anymore, hopefully Kouyate and Song will make us not even miss him, only negative is no CB even on a loan, maybe Roger Johnson will come back as a loan or free as I believe that window re-opens in October/November?

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
clubs like us HAVE to take a gamble with strikers thats half the reason we've had god knows how many attempts in the past 3 years. Fact is the much demanded by many on here of the '15-20 goals a season guaranteed' no 9 would cost £20m MINIMUM (unless over 30) and would be competed away by deeper pockets than us.
So i'm happy we've done better work up top with 3 strikers that all have some basis for hope at least.
Also happy with the mid-field upgardes and the 2 FBs.
Bit concerned with lack of CB cover and agree GK is not a position we are yet top 10 potential in.
But overall pleased - the big IF being if BFS can get them working in a system and to their more offensive strengths.

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
Exactly what I've been saying for years...we have to take a punt on players. Players who are the finished article will join bigger clubs. It's why clubs at our level will always take a punt on players like Ravel...BrownFatwa wrote:clubs like us HAVE to take a gamble with strikers thats half the reason we've had god knows how many attempts in the past 3 years. Re: The Transfer Window Poll
Adrian has done a decent job. I think this season will be critical for him. If he does well then I'm sure we will sign a back up. If he's a mediocre year then I think any keeper coming in will be as a replacement.
As an aside...why do premier league teams have youth keepers...when's the last time one became number 1 at their club...?

Re: The Transfer Window Poll
Was a YES from me. Can not see how we are not in a better position. (Squad wise) Than we were at the end of last season. Would be shocked if we go down with this lot………
But it is West Ham.

^^^ Spot on Brownfatwa & Jacko.
Hopefully one day we will be able to sign the Big established players in their prime but unfortunately we're not in that league at this time!
I'm happy enough with the window, yes as other said would have been happier with another Centre Half but Song & Koyate will be fine in an emergency.
