Re: Chelsea v West Ham United: Match Thread
I keep thinking about this game and how we're more than likely to see our fantastic run come to an end.
But...
If we sprang an upset, treat it as a one off game against a side who in all likelihood are underestimating somewhat, and won, we could potentially go five points behind Chelsea at the top, should they lose their tricky fixture at Stoke.
I think I'd start believing at that stage and dreaming of travelling to Newcastle for a very, very long weekend on the last day for a title decider.

Personally I would be looking for quick counter attacking football for this one, so would line up with
-----------------------Adrian-----------------
Jenkinson---Collins---Reid---Creswell
-----------------------Song-------------------
-----------Amalafanto---Kouyate---------
--------------------Downing------------------
-------------Valencia---Sakho--------------

I'd go...
----------------------Adrian----------------------
Jenkinson-------------Reid----------Collins-------Cresswell
----------------------------------Song--------------------------------
Downing---------Sakho------------Noble---------Valencia
---------------------------------Carroll----------------------
Copied Billydinho's format, but think this provides 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 if we want to go for it - why not?

We need pace for this one, coz they have it in abundance. Your team selection, including Collins in for Tomkins, since Costa will absolutely dick him, is I think, bang on the money
Re: Chelsea v West Ham United: Match Thread
I would be tempted to change things and try and have our strongest XI for the arsenal and west brom games at home. It will also give some of the other players a chance, tell them to all give 100% and make it so they are too tired to start the arsenal game, but give him something to think about for the west brom game. I think we will go 4-5-1
Adrian
Jenkinson
Reid
Collins
JOB
Jarvis
Nolan
Kouyate
Amalfitano
Zarate
Sakho or Carlton
I think Arsenal will be 4-4-2 diamond, but he will want Andy as the target man and Enner using his work rate to help out the midfield 4 defensively, I think he will also want Song to control the midfield at home, where as I don't think we will have much of the ball away to Chelsea, regardless of who plays in midfield, I reckon he will rest Downing as well.

Interesting you say, but we really have had no luck this season. Had more things gone our way we would have had:Billydinho wrote:I keep thinking about this game and how we're more than likely to see our fantastic run come to an end.

Tottenham: 3 more points (Missed pen at 0-0)
Villa: 2 more (Guzan Motm)
Sunderland: 2 (never a pen)
Everton: 1 (Lukaku offside)
Man U: 1 (Advantage given to Nolan)
The only game this season we have deserved to be beaten is Southampton. We haven't had any luck and have got all of our results via quality and work rate. Had everything gone our way, we could have been on 40 points and been top of the league.
Edit: Just reviewed all of our results and admit we had a bit of luck for the goal Vs Newcastle. But I think we deserved to win anyway.

Come on Sam - 19th or stone age football......anything as long you out tactic dat twat AGAIN!
Our boys will be well up for this and will be in first gear!
Ginge will pocket another scalp
Reid will be desperate to do well (shop window )
Adrian will be at his best
Cresswell and Jenkinson will match them for pace
Nolan will boss them
The will bounce off Carroll and Kouyate
Song, Downing, Sakho will confuse the feck out of them
Valencia will work them even harder and Cole will be deadly when they are on
And will basically do the same up L'Arse.
What surprises will Sam throw in. This is going to be a great Christmas

Re: Chelsea v West Ham United: Match Thread
Sam will be aware that Chelsea sees us a a must win 3 points - especially with Man City likely to win against West Brom at home. So expect Sam to field the same first eleven as the Leicester match (winning team keeps the shirt bar perhaps Tomkins - hamstring worries) with instructions to keep it super tight. Counter-punching and set pieces will be the order of the day offensively. Changes to come only if we fall behind, or if things stay even at the 70 minute mark, then send Noble / Morgan / Valencia on to try to nick it.
19th Century football with a flick knife in the back pocket.
At least thats what Sam would want Mourinho to think... :p

Sam loves to rub the 'chosen one's' nose in it. Lets park the bus and do a smash and grab at the end.

We'll lose, they're a top side. I just hope we have a go and keep it tight.
The Arsenal game is more important.

If Arsenal don't win against Liverpool they're 4 points behind us giving us a cushion for this match. Then beat them at home and re-establish the gap between them and us.

I'd love a 0-0 but wouldn't be arsed if we lose. Bit of a non-entity game due to the position we're in and just how good Chelsea are

Shame we can't take the shed anymore, that was always a highlight of my youth despite the result.
Could not agree more - always the best away day of any season.
Sad to think that we now have to have tickets to get into the shed , after all those years of just being there, because we could.

Honestly believe we have a real chance to getting something here. Cant believe how defeatist some of you lot are!
Strongest team possible. None of this Jarvis, Carlton, JOB b*llocks as some above have suggested

Come on Stoke, do your Stoke batter thing to them tomorrow.
Then Chelsea to win so they will be cocky on Friday.
Thus endeth my expert analysis.

Re: Chelsea v West Ham United: Match Thread
Kouyate, maybe Nolan, is the missing player. The midfield three should protect the centre halves almost all the time.
Park the bus, try to exploit their weakness at right back (see the disproportionate number of goals they've conceded).
A point is do-able, but Arsenal is the one where we really should take something.
