Re: Germany v Slovakia
Slovakia are really hard to break down aren't they, I can see exactly what the problem was for us when we played them
Oh, it took the Germans just 7 minutes?

Took the Germans 7 minutes to breach the Slovakian defence, puts Englands efforts into perspective.

England softened them up.

I can hear Roy or Rooney saying something like that.beckton wrote:England softened them up.
Re: Germany v Slovakia
Silly comparison but I knew someone would make it. Germany got in seven minutes what England never got in the entire match which is a lucky deflection, the game is now open and Germany will go on to win by several goals.wolf359 wrote:Took the Germans 7 minutes to breach the Slovakian defence, puts Englands efforts into perspective.
Oh and yes of course Germany are better than England, they are not the World Champions through luck. If England do manage to get through to the semi finals then Germany will start as big favourites for very good reasons but that is no reason to take cheap and predictable shots at England, not being as good as Germany does not make a team useless.

3-0 now, god knows what score it would be if Slovakia didn't have a well organised and very hard to break down defence.

No but not being able to score against this Slovakia side does.bobcar wrote:not being as good as Germany does not make a team useless.
Re: Germany v Slovakia
Shouldn't the Germans have 3 stars for euro champions. This is not the World Cup.

Re: Germany v Slovakia
Amazing what an early goal can do.
They're looking ominously decent though. As usual.

Re: Germany v Slovakia
How is it a silly comparison? After all the garbage of the last few days where people have waffled on about poor old England playing a team that sticks everyone behind the ball, it's amusing to watch a team we are supposedly competing with to win this thing, totally destroy that same teambobcar wrote:

Oh, and you make your own luck

Re: Germany v Slovakia
But the first goal was a deflected shot from a corner. The ball fell nicely for him to hit. As I said, sometimes you need the luck of the bounce and them the game falls into your lap.

Re: Germany v Slovakia
Glad Slovakia got whacked. What they deserved for showing no ambition against us and being happy with 3rd.
Re: Germany v Slovakia
Because you can always pick and choose your matches. England easily beat Switzerland twice in competitive matches yet France struggled against them. Using your logic you can say that England showed France how to do it and that England are better than France, the matches against the same team do not show that at all.chalks wrote: How is it a silly comparison? Wales beat Russia 3-0, England drew against the same team yet when they played against each other England were far superior.
Iceland drew against Portugal, if England beat Iceland is that England showing Portugal "how to do it"? No it isn't.
Leaving aside Germany being the better team than England which we all agree with, in this match Germany got the lucky break and then Slovakia did not spend the whole match defending like they did against England. And you don't always make your own luck.
Yes Germany are the better side but not because of this one result - that is the silly and puerile comparison, they are the better side because of what they have done overall in the past including winning the World Cup.
