West Ham Utd 1-1 Stoke City (05/11/16)

Post by cockney farmer »

Can't believe I have the privilege of starting this but I am genuinely looking forward to this crucial encounter . Our recently aquired home fortress status will. See us through to a 2-0 win. Collins to stop one on the line in the last minute with his ginger nut.

Stoke are on a bit of a good run are they not? I still think we will win this and, really, we have to if we want to push on. Start Ayew please, he looked better than anything else we've had going forward.

2 - 1
Antonio and Ayew

Not point having Zaza and Calleri in the squad. They have nothing to offer.

Calleri is yet to start a Premier League game, I think we should at least give him or go before we completely right him off.

Adrian
Arbeloa-Collins-Ogbonna-Cresswell
Obiang-Lanzini
Antonio-Ayew-Payet
Calleri

Subs - Randolph, , Oxford, Fernandes, Noble, Kouyate, Zaza, Fletcher

We got a bit of a touch in Ogbonna being available for this. That probably should have been a red for bringing down a player as the last man.

Stoke are on the box tonight against Swansea so it'll be interesting to see how they set-up. Shaqiri had a blinder last week but blows hot and cold overall - Arnautovic I think their most consistent threat.

They've also got Bony who a bit like Zaza is struggling to find the net - I hope I haven't put the mockers on!!

Anyway as for us, we need to do our stuff for 90 mins and not 20 or 30 - maybe the 3 at the back system with the personnel we have isn't sustainable for the whole match?

Also against Everton as (Romford pointed out) our wing-backs failed to deliver meaningful penetration/crosses plus our lack of a finisher for the good chances created suggests we'll be relying on the midfield or Antonio as usual.

Stoke are improving, seem to have a bit of fortune against us as well, so I'm going 1-1.

Payet/Lanzini/Nobes wake up call coming off the bench. Personally wouldn't mind Oxford libero with freedom to bring the ball into midfield rather than having Noble's negativity killing forward momentum. Obiang can do Nobes 'specialist' job of showing for the ball, but both also have the ability to carry the ball & run at pace box to box.
Kouyate & Mike seem to work well together around the dreaded RB area & they have the muscle to nullify Arnoutovic.

Not entirely fixed in my mind yet but:

1) Revert to 4 at the back.
2) Drop Lanzini from the starting XI.
3) Drop Zaza from the 18.

Toying with a diamond and having Ayew and Antonio as a strike pair.

Firstly, you have only picked 10 players. Secondly, regardless of how bad he played last time out, to drop Payet is just laughable.

Bony is struggling in front of goal. Worth sticking a couple of quid on to score, it's the West Ham way!

If Payet gets dropped then the rest can have their families kidnapped. The guy had one bad game, he's allowed to from time to time
