West Ham Utd 1-0 Hull City (17/12/16)

Re: West Ham Utd vs Hull City: match thread
It's not very often that we'd win a game with a performance like yesterdays, or with with a performance like the one against Burnley is the stark truth of the matter.
In most performances like those the opposition would score at least one and we wouldn't be given a penalty.
I don't see any improvement other than to our league position

Re: West Ham Utd vs Hull City: match thread
For anyone that wants to try and convince me we are playing anything other than complete garbage...you're deluded. The signings were primarily diabolical, the move has been a farce and the 'f##k you' attitude our owners have shown our supporters is what's causing the supporters to not have any patience with the team. We lack any coherent plan to win football matches..confidence is gone, we can barely string two five yard passes together....our only saving grace is how the hell we aren't in the bottom 3 is a miracle. Ive seen people on here saying about how Payet coming back is gonna fix things, then it was ayew, then sakho, then carrol.......the whole setup from top to bottom is a shambles. Going forwards we have to hope that some confidence is derived from winning these games....I imagine even that is gonna be hard when they sit down on Monday morning to watch the game back and be anything other than embarrassed in their performance and angry that we are booing them!. Im a big believer in Bilic but he quite clearly has major issues in keeping a harmonious squad, often to the detriment of our playing 11. I've seen nothing from him to show me that he is doing anything to change games effectively...so its with a really heavy heart that I cant see Bilic as the guy to take west ham forward.

15 points from the last ten games, I'll take that, thank you. And if we get 15 points from the next ten games, I'll take that too!
Re: West Ham Utd vs Hull City: match thread
I'm not expecting champagne football or to trounce teams 4-0. Are people not worried how we struggled against the likes of Hull and Burnley? Must win games I get that and the pressure that comes with it. But we'll see in these next 3 games how this all unfolds. I think we'll draw at Swansea and lose to both Leicester & Ibrahimovic Utd.

Re: West Ham Utd vs Hull City: match thread
This is a particularly difficult one to fathom. We played for the guts of 45 Minutes over the past two games, yet we have emerged with two clean sheets and six points. We have been the beneficiaries of two defensive brainfarts, and of some excellent goalkeeping, and some poor shooting. At times we have looked as poor as we could possibly look. Hull hit the post three times yesterday, and didn't take other chances. We made half chances, and took our one free chance with aplomb. Against Burnley we were more creative, but retreated for 45 minutes.
I think we can be concerned and delighted in equal measure. Hull City played well yesterday. They played well on the break, and broke through our lax defence. On occasions they even beat our keeper. Had Hull won yesterday, very few of us could have complained. However, we won. We won by some miracle, but also by a certain degree of resilience. Ill credit Slav for taking a more proactive approach at half-time by taking out our defensive midfielder and Lanzini, and replacing them with attacking options. Both made a degree of difference, even if our right side (especially at the back) looked entirely vacated. Payet tried to make things happen, but is the subject of very serious attention as other teams are aware of how dangerous he is.. Our refusal to shoot, and preference for faffing about with the ball is costing us opportunities, and is biting us as we are relying on the set-piece to bring us joy. Three of our last four goals have come directly from set pieces (Noble's rebound was essentially a penalty), and that ought to be a concern. and this is not a new phenomenon considering our goals against Arsenal, and Manchester United have also come from set pieces. Its great that we can be prolific from the dead ball, but we need more than that as time wears on.
What interests me, is that we have gone "back to basics". This is essentially the team which performed so well last term (minus Diafra Sakho, and Adrian) and it is showing that by not trying to shoehorn the new signings into the team, there is a basis to work from. Notwithstanding, we need investment in January. We need a striker who can support Carroll. We badly need a right-back. It is just so blatantly obvious how much we need a specialist right back who can slot into that position. And I also think we need a bruiser in central midfield. Its been 2 1/2 years since we signed one, and we are seriously missing out by not having steel in the advanced midfield. I think to actually sign the right players, we will need close to £20 Million of investment, and maybe more.
However, in terms of what happened last night we got out of jail. But that doesn't negate the fact that we won, against a relegation rival, and have pushed ourselves away from the relegation zone, with further chances to do more damage in the next month with Swansea, and Leicester all on the horizon. Four points from those games would boost us before we start the second round of fixtures on the 2nd January. We have lost games in which we have played much better, and as somebody pointed out we have taken 15 points from the last 30, and if luck had been on our side against Spurs, we actually would have 18. That has included travelling to Old Trafford, Anfield, and having Arsenal down at ours, while playing rivals in the bottom half. My chin is up after all this. Ill be honest, I suspect a long, hard season where there will be many more groans to come. However, if resilience hadn't shown through, we might well have taken 3 points from the games against Sunderland, Hull, and Burnley rather than 9. The resilience is a major positive, and the results quite good.

38 games broken down as:
10 games = 15 points
10 games = 15 points
10 games = 15 points
8 games = 12 points.

Not from here it isn't it equates to more like 49 points at that ratio from the 17 games we've played. Guess i rounded down due to how bad we've played, and that we've played most of the teams in the bottom half at home already. Think we'd all take 57 points....Only I think we've only ever got that total in the premier league twice ever!!! Would be some turnaround.
