No, I'm not even certain it's of much interest to them now that they've managed to pull the move off.

Re: The Olympic/London Stadium: Poll #2
European football should matter to them or what was the point of going whether they want the club to succeed or whether they just want to sell us for a handsome profit and run.
A successful club to a fan is one that wins trophies. To get in Europe we must win a cup or qualify by achieving at least 6/7th position.
Regular European football puts West Ham on the map. We want a successful club. At present we are staring down the barrel of a gun with the Championship looming,

The point was quite clearly a real estate deal. If they could fatten up the value of the football club then that was a bonus - but the real driver was the opportunity to redevelop. ie GREED. :twisted:PC Hammer wrote:European football should matter to them or what was the point of going whether they want the club to succeed or whether they just want to sell us for a handsome profit and run.

I feel like the club is on hold until this stadium mess gets resolved, which could take years and maybe even a decade or more.

We won't make a regular appearance in Europe until the club makes a step up.
The step up requires a few players to sign that the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Man U and Arsenal would sign from the off and we've beaten them, it's the step up Chelsea and Man City made.

The first of which was via the now-defunct fair play league and we spanked both opportunities in the qualifying rounds, the first arguably deliberately.Pop Robson wrote:we've just had 2 seasons in a row in Europe !

i'm astonished there are 16% who think the answer isn't NO.
(of course that drops to 11% if you exclude everyone with the surname Sullivan).

Re: The Olympic/London Stadium: Poll #2
The big problem is that we now have six very strong clubs in this country in Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal. If we want regular European football we need to finishing above at least one of these clubs most seasons. We also need to be finishing above all the other well performing sides like Everton and Southampton.
We're are never going to achieve this on the cheap. We will need to be improving our side every single season. Every transfer window is going to need us bringing in players who our rivals also want too. If we want a player and one of our rivals for sixth place want him too, we need to pull out all the stops and get him. We need Champions League sides casting an envious eye at our entire squad, not just our star player. We should come to expect our players to be tapped up left, right and centre, and we need to have the fortitude to repel such advances.
We're not just gonna "click" our way into back to back top six finishes. We can't rely on bigger, stronger sides messing up and us getting in on default. If we want top six regularly we have to set ourselves up like a top six outfit. We can never have another summer like we had this year.

That is it in a nutshell. The board have taken us to the OS with top 6 finishes being the main reason for the move as we had 'outgrown Upton Park'. However the extra revenue from 20,000 fans alone is not going to make that leap bearing in mind TV income and the march the clubs mentioned above (maybe except Soton) have on us.James P wrote:The big problem is that we now have six very strong clubs in this country...we need to finishing above at least one of these clubs most seasons...finishing above all the other well performing sides like Everton and Southampton.

Leicester have shown that you do not have to have a 60,000 seater stadium to win the Premier League or indeed qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
We cannot go back to Upton Park and redevelop the East Stand giving us a 42,000 capacity and to all intents and purposes 40-52,000 (depending on where you take your attendance figures from) are coming to watch West Ham. We are playing woefully, have a minus 12 goal difference and look destined to finish well out of the European spots while we are looking over our shoulders at a relegation scrap. I thought coming to the OS would at least see us out of that bottom 6/7 and have us at least top 10 looking upwards.
So what happens next....?
1. The board spend 'top 6 money' on proven players who will improve our first team & squad.
2. The board bring in other people to help them invest in the club to ensure point 1 is fulfilled.
3. The board sell the club entirely to people who will invest in the club to ensure point 1 is fulfilled.
4. The board hope for a Leicester type situation.
5. The board hope for a cup final win.
All 5 points above could have been done with us at Upton Park and it may have been better to do so but the board without a mandate from the fans chose to go to the OS.
If the board really are fans of the club and are in this for the long haul then point 1 is the way to go however their track record suggests otherwise so I cannot see them doing this to the extent we need to break through while points 4 & 5 are just that - hope. Better we did stay at Upton Park if this is the case. Point 2 has some legs in it and would appeal to investors but i think deep down point 3 is their ultimate goal. The fans are there ...for now but i bet Mr.Gold & Mr. Sullivan are keen for an upturn in the team's fortunes which will then be reflected in a similar upturn for theirs.

No credible business is going to invest substantial money into the club with the two pensioners wanting the final say. They might get some money from a dodgy West African oil company or similar.

Agree with above. They want investors but they also want to maintain total control. They won't even allow staff to do their jobs re: transfer targets.

Hadn't voted in this one because the answer is painfully obvious but just voted to see if the next poll is less cut and dried.Up the Junction wrote:17 more votes and we can move on to #3...
ps - I think you're wrong but I admire those cheery souls who voted 'yes' - the bastards can't have ground you down yet.

I think it is highly likely a few of the 'yes' votes were from people agreeing 'yes' we won't get into Europe with the current owners.
