Noble needs dropping in games like these. He's still got a part to play against lower end teams IMO but against a pacey attacking team like City he might aswell not even be on the pitch. Now Kouyate is back Noble should be back to a bench role. Kouyate covers so much ground.

------------Carroll-----------
-Antonio---------Snoddy-
-------------------------------
-----------Lanzini-----------
-----Obiang--Kouyate----
-------------------------------
Cress---------------Byram
--------Reid---Fonte-------
-------------------------------
-----------Randy------------

Keep compact in the middle.

Sub on Feghouli or Fernandes around 60 minutes for Snod and Kouyate/Lanzini..

I blame Obiang for Cresswell's error. If you look at the highlights , he passes to Cresswell (who is surrounded by City players) and then runs into an area where he can't receive a return pass . Creswell's options were either pass it out of play or knock it into a space where there wasn't any City player in front of him. Unfortunately, he did the latter (and City pounced on the loose ball) but where was the support for him? No-one within 15 yards of him to make any safe pass. Our midfield is just generally poor from both a mental, physical and creative perspective.

That was something I noticed last night (apart from standing off the opposition and letting them do what they liked), the number of hospital passes played. A slow rolled pass across our eighteen yard line with the recipient's ears full of galloping football boots.

Here's a potentially interesting stat on pitch width we've dug out this morning.

Vodafone Arena, Besiktas: 68 yds (x 105yds)
Boleyn Ground: 70 yds (x 110 yds)
Olympic Stadium: 74 yds (x 115 yds)

According to that then, the current pitch is nearly 50% bigger than the Boleyn... thats a lot of extra space.

After all the red cards we've had rescinded, this is their chance to get us back.

Creswell will likely be banned, even if it was soft.

Here's another one... only Payet has won less tackles per 90 mins this season than Cresswell. He apparently wins 0.72 tackles per game.

Top of the charts are Masuaku with 3.08, and Obiang with 3.02

No wonder we all look knackered. You just get that nagging feeling that maybe Slav hasn't realised (yet) that we need the ground shortened against quick pacy fit opposition teams. Or maybe the rental contract prevents us from altering the ground , etc etc. Whatever, it can be a major disadvantage for our current squad.

It's 74 x 115 yards, not 155. Methinks the boss has done a wee typo there.

^ yep, that's the case.

to put a bit of perspective, while a couple of yards each side doesn't seem that much, the playing surface is about 10% bigger than it was at the boleyn.

Seeing him clatter into one of theirs for a yellow was the first time I've seen him make physical contact with someone practically all season since he came back from injury.

Give Arthur the shirt for a while, apart from his brain farts against Brom, I thought he looked good. At least he actually tried to do what a defender should, namely tackle the odd player.
