Re: the golf thread
Great to hear Rory McIlroy pulling up Muirfield on their member's sexist behavior...sad that others kept quiet.

Re: the golf thread
I was actually going to start one...100% gospel.
As long as people on it realise they are open to the same rules as every other poster on every other thread then we will all get along fine.*
* and Mumbles doesn't send pics of his sexy golf bag

Re: The Golf Thread
Please note that now this is no longer part of a larger forum (NuMB, as it was) it is not necessary to have one all-encompassing thread per sport.
As per GD, feel free to use a new thread for each new event. Same goes for all other sports/events on here.

Played today
Wanstead , 30 points
Beautiful course, shame that we were stuck behind a pro event so took forever and some members got the hump at the speed and tried to start a bit of an arguement
Soon got shot down when my mate offered one out lol

Re: The Golf Thread
Guys what would be the best way of taking up the sport? I've always been interested but it's only now that I may have the time to actually do anything about it
Re: The Golf Thread
depends on budgetSlacking student wrote:Guys what would be the best way of taking up the sport? I've always been interested but it's only now that I may have the time to actually do anything about it
you could buy yourself a decent set of clubs for say £1000 and have some lessons
or you could go second hand get a very good set of clubs for under £500 and again lessons
key is some lessons just to have the basics
many pros offer get into golf classes to teach you the basics of grip and swing which will get you into the game
ebay is hard to get second hand clubs at the moment due to AG doing double trade in and everyone buying second hand stock and selling to american golf
AG now have a ton of second hand golf gear.. as do golf bidder
there is also the starter packs that american golf offer
http://www.americangolf.co.uk/golf-club ... tand%20bag" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
£250 for a complete set, good way to start, can always upgrade if you get more into it
but the key would be a few professional lessons to get you on the right track

Re: The Golf Thread
Yep, definitely start with a course of lessons. Most clubs offer beginner classes where you won't have to shell out for all the gear, they'll provide what you need.
Don't get disheartened, a lot of the technique is counter intuitive and will take time to 'groove'.
On a purely personal basis, if somebody asked me to teach them from square one I'd start with putting, go on to chipping and then pitching. They are basically the same stroke and will get you used to swinging the club rather than hitting with it.

Re: The Golf Thread
Agree with everything said about taking it up... I started from scratch two years ago, have a lesson every 3 weeks or so. Its taking some time to come together but last week was the first time I've felt like i could actually hit a par 4 green in 2... which was an awesome feeling...
Dont spend silly money to begin with, no need... a lot of it is technique, the right tools can come later

Actually bought myself a new set of Taylor Made Irons today, to go with the Taylor Made Driver the Mrs bought me last week. Tried out different brands, just seem to feel right and I think thats the main thing.

Re: The Golf Thread
Glad to hear that all sports will be treated the same....the problems previously arose because of a lack of moderating and arrogance from some members who were allowed to behave as if this was a golf forum.Up the Junction wrote:Please note that now this is no longer part of a larger forum (NuMB, as it was) it is not necessary to have one all-encompassing thread per sport.

Re: The Golf Thread
The biggest problem with golf is the people that play it sadly....mumbles87 wrote:
