Technically, the strawberry is an aggregate accessory fruit, meaning that the fleshy part is derived not from the plant's ovaries but from the receptacle that holds the ovaries. Each apparent "seed" (achene) on the outside of the fruit is actually one of the ovaries of the flower, with a seed inside it.Burningaham wrote:Why are the seeds on the outside of a strawberry?
Don't you lot have google?

I've read that when the Vincent Black Shadow was built, it was the fastest production motorcycle in the world, and nothing was built that was faster until 1973.
But the Vincent Black Lightning was faster (125mph v 150mph), so does that not count as a production motorcycle?
The fastest bike I can see in 1973 was the Kawasaki Z1, which would beat the Black Shadow but not the Black Lightning.
So bikers, did the Black Lightning not count, and if it did, what beat it?

That's a simple one mate. The Vincent Black Lightning was a custom order bike. So although it was in "production", it was a custom order bike and was produced on request.WHU_Del wrote:I've read that when the Vincent Black Shadow was built, it was the fastest production motorcycle in the world, and nothing was built that was faster until 1973.

What would beat it? Anything that was massed produced and could go faster than 125mph.

I thought it probably was simple, I just couldn't find the answer anywhere! CheersGreatest Cockney Rip Off wrote: That's a simple one mate. The Vincent Black Lightning was a custom order bike. So although it was in "production", it was a custom order bike and was produced on request.

The 150mph was a bit of a stretch as well. It was achieved at Bonneville Salt Flats but the rider had to strip to his underwear and lie completely flat with his legs straight out behind him to get the speed.

Yep.Bonneville salt flats were the place between the wars ,and after, for speed records.Triumph were one of a few manufacturers that did that sort of stuff and pinched the now iconic name.vietnammer wrote:Hence the name of the bike (Bonneville) ?
The Bonnie was a twin carb version of a 650 twin(the Thunderbird) designated T120..Came out in '59,uprated to the T140 1970(ish).
I passed my test in 1970 (on my 16th birthday, though I'd had a Bantam on the road, illegally, since I was 15) and bought a 1962 T120.My old man had been working@Norton Villiers for 10 years, and was so disgusted by my choice,he wouldn't let me put it in the shed. I only rode it a couple of times, then got a loan and chopped it in for a Commando, much better machine.

Not the case. The reverse, actually. After two bottles of beer with around 20 minutes having elapsed, I reached the heady heights of 0 on the breathalyser - the de facto limit being 40.sendô wrote:I don't know how much you'd have to neck to get that far over. It's probably not as much as people think.
This article indicated (although clearly doesn't prove) that a seasoned drinker of above average weight (the older guy) can drink quite a lot before hitting the limit. Albeit there are lots of other factors.

Yep, they also do a Triumph Thruxton, (basically a 1200cc Bonneville) named after the circuit in Hampshire.vietnammer wrote:Hence the name of the bike (Bonneville) ?

Re: Things you've always wanted to know......
My water bill has a set charge for water as well as a rate for usage. Straightforward enough.
However it also has a set charge for sewage, and in addition another charge based on usage. I'm not aware of anyone fitting a meter on my crapper, so my question is, how do they know my sewage usage?

They assume all water going in to your house will eventually leave via a drain of some sort.
