Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
Tore,Feghouli,Ayew,Calleri,Snodgrass - Five attempts at replacing the "decidedly average" Valencia and Moses, five unmitigated failures, imo.Cresswell,Byram,Masuaku and, even, Jenkinson are better "wingers" than that lot!
Our only attacking threat was over when Antonio went off -When Lanzini drove forward ,his team mates just stopped and watched, with fingers crossed, that he could beat five or six players and score!! Fonte was captain of Southampton, apparently, yet he appears mute in our defense and kept colliding/going for the same ball as his team mates??

Spot on,but swap Ayew for Sakho, imo. Next question, with the exception of the last minute buy of Masuaku,to cover the Cresswell injury - what was the point of the last summer and this winter transfer windows?? If only we had had a transfer embargo (for breaching FFP rules!) put on us.DDHammer wrote:Adrian
Byram, Reid, Kouyate, Cresswell
Obiang, Noble
Antonio, Lanzini, Masuaku
Carroll/Ayew
Probably our best line-up if everyone was fit.

We wont play a 2nd striker...and i haven't seen him play as a winger.Crouchend_Hammer wrote:
He certainly gave us the runaround least season playing up front on his own
Anyway, i didn't say he had to play up top on his own, he could play as a 2nd striker
What is pointless is playing him on the wing

But he's a left winger. Almost every game he played in his career before moving to Swansea was as a left winger.Crouchend_Hammer wrote:He certainly gave us the runaround least season playing up front on his own

What's almost remarkable is that we haven't played him as a left winger this season at all, if my recollection is right. CAM, RW, and second ST.

Well that is Bilic's decision not to play a 2nd striker, no one elseRomford wrote:

I am not saying Ayew is worth £20m. Too early to judge for me
But judging him when he is patently not being used in the right way is very harsh IMHO

His performances for Swansea are most relevant as those are when he has played in the Premiership. Not France.YorksHammer wrote:

Clearly he had a good season last year in the Premiership, and for a lot of that time, he was playing right up top

We have a problem in midfield with 5 players in there...you want it to become 4 ?Crouchend_Hammer wrote:

Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
Im not being harsh on Ayew...im just saying that he hasn't shown anything special to me.
After all the players getting slagged off on here...I just wonder why he is getting a fair run when others haven't.
Noble was our best player last night...I haven't seen anyone say it.

would certainly not be against giving a diamond formation a go. let's be honest. can't be much worse than what else we have at the momentRomford wrote:

Nordveit at the base
Noble and Kouyate in the middle
Lanzini at the tip
Antonio and Ayew up front

I'm waiting on Ayew to get a proper pre-season with us. Horrible injury in his first game, then off to the Afcon. Still has 3 goals and an assist in the 350 minutes since returning. Slightly over 1 in 2 for the season so far.
Work on his fitness over the summer and he should hopefully look like the player he always has done for other clubs.

Lets be honest.....taking on even a crap Arsenal team with the defence we had last night was always going to be "backs to the wall".

4 in midfield only works with hard working, fit midfielders with discipline. We lack all of those traits this season, you have to look at Leicester to see how a 4-4-2 is utilised. Our players do not have the qualities, we would get battered.

I personally would play a different shape...I have moaned about it all season.Crouchend_Hammer wrote:

Right now though with the scratch back 4 we have.....I'd be looking at keeping a clean sheet more.
(how it hurts me to say it)

Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
Depends on how you play your 442. A diamond gives us more in the middle and makes our full backs the width. Considering all they can do is attack, we might as well utilise that and protect them as we do.The Gibbins wrote:4 in midfield only works with hard working, fit midfielders with discipline. For me, the other option is the five at the back again and Nordtveit or Fernandes in with Noble.
Not sure I see Ayew in the team whatever we do, luxury we aren't earning

Wilko, I am noy saying Ayew should be in the starting eleven. But if you want to judge him fairly, then do it when he has played in the positions that he did so well for Swansea last year
I honestly don't think he knows where he is supposed to be playing, or what he is supposed to be doing, which, unfortunately is the case for a lot of our players at the moment

Not disagreeing, but either way his position isn't working and if we are gonna fight then we don't carry him

Very pleased with the first half display. Antonio was a key outlet, but I couldn't work what Big Andy and Ayew roles were. Both were poor imo even in the first half.
Collins was immense at times with a few important blocks and tackles.
Time to give Adrian a runout, Randolph deserved his chance but it works both ways
Lanzini looked great at times, but I can't work out if he was let down by his teammates or if he was trying to do too much on his own
