Into the second week at Roland Garros and seeding in the Men's Singles has worked out pretty well with only 5th seed Raonic not making it into the last 8 from the top 8 seeds.
Murray has been getter better with each round and will face Nishikori in Quarter Final and if successful, probably Wawrinka who looked very good today against home favourite Monfils. Murray has stuggled to reach the levels he scaled last year so far, but he has been improving and it would be great to see him win here. However, Nadal is looking unbeatable at the moment having looked a spent force a couple of years ago. Funny old game innit.

Djokovic thrashed by Thiem, complete surrender in third set.

Updated

Murray through after a sluggish performance at times against Nishikori. He'll need to play better against Wawrinka if he wants to make it to the Final.

I believe he probably has, but like a large number of Spanish sport stars there are big questions about their countries attitudes to doping and their testing methods.

Yes I am saying Spain is another Russia

Murray and Wawrinka going at it hammer and tong today. into a 5th and final set - Stan breaks Murray in the first game.

I fear that could be that. currently 2-0 and with another break point

wow - absolute melt down in the final set. 5-0 to Stan about to become 6-0

edit: well, well, well, Murray has got one of the breaks back. now 5-1 with Murray to serve

double edit: broken again and Stan wins the last set 6-1

Great game of tennis and good luck to Stan in the final. He's never lost a Grand Slam Final so whoever he plays will need to be at the top of their game. Unfortunately today, Murray wasn't quite at that peak, he was close and probably played his best tennis of the year but Stan is such a powerful playet who on his day can dismantle the best of players. Murray didn't fall to bits in the fifth, he was fighting all the way and even the commentators mentioned that he hadn't given up the way Djokovic did. The problem for Murray was that the momentum that he had through the 4th set disappeared in the tie break and Stan carried that momentum into the 5th and in the blink of an eye Murray was 0-5 .
If, as expected, Nadal makes it to the Final, it could be a classic. Both have the power and stamina and both never know when they are beaten - I thought Murray would win the 4th set and the match after he won the third which at one stage he was 0-3 down but it was not to be and Stan's fighting qualities prevailed.
Murray played very well today but came up against someone who played just a little bit better. I am sure Murray is looking forward to the feeling of grass underfoot

Slightly disappointing result but the way Murray has shaped up this year I think he's shown tremendous strength to get into some kind of form, I really started to wonder if he was on the slide. He had shingles ( the mens shingles :D ) early in the year and it can take months to recover properly so let's hope he's getting back to top form. To be fair, if the lad never wins again he's been fantastic for the British game.

Hope Wawrinka wins it now.

As for Djokovic.....I've no idea what's going on there !

Sorry all I see is a drug cheat, the Spanish are cheats plain and simple.

Just one link - there are many - Spain has a 'relaxed attitude' to drug testing

I have to say that is very difficult to look at Nadal's form this year compared to that of two years ago and not consider that his performance has been enhanced by more than just physical rehabilitation. He never looked like dropping a set over the two weeks of Roland Garros and so it transpired. I may of course be wrong, but I am sure there are plenty of players on the tour who are thinking along the same lines.

With the grass season imminent, it will be interesting to see how fellow veteran Federer gets on having swerved the French Open to concentrate on another assault at Wimbledon. I think in his mindset, Federer is looking for one more Wimbledon and would then seriously look at calling time on his career.
