Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
They went out of the CL in the third qualifying round this year, and never get past the group stages. Their record is basically similar to a number of 'small' clubs that end up in the CL group stages regularly.
If you look at his reported alternatives, before the Monaco link came up he was being touted as a potential signing for Everton or Southampton - neither of those are CL clubs either, and both are in the midtable huddle with us. For some reason, the 'big' CL clubs aren't biting on young Youri.
It's a realistic 'coup' signing for us, in my opinion. Certainly more realistic than a number of names that come up on here.[/quote]
in what world are the dave's going to pull this one off ? what is the rumoured cost of tielemans? mid-table huddle? with saints yes....but not sure if you have seen the league table recently but it shows the scousers 20 points above us. like it or not Everton are streets ahead of us, and all the other teams from 8th place down right now, ambitious owners, top draw manager, playing good football, good squad, academy players coming through, new football stadium to be built. they are doing everything we should be doing.
Okay forgetting CL, why would he go from a Europa League side, to play in an athletics stadium for a struggling side in the PL, with a fanbase in disarray and under this 'ownership' (the less said about them the better)
I like your ambition but I think we need to take off the claret and blue tinted specs off and see our club for what it is right now; a mess. and until we are taken over that wont change.

kouyate 153 appearances - 4 goals
tielemans 128 appearances - 25 goals
plus tielemans is about 8 years younger. ridiculous comparison!!

If you wanna be "realistic" change it to Defoe up top with Antonio
Begovic - 12m
Zabaleta - free
Defoe - free
Tielemans - 30m
might do that with my FM17 save

It won't happen this window, given the investment in Fonte, either.
Shame, a transfer would comfortably have paid for itself in the first half season alone.
Rumours were that we had agreed loan with an option at £2.5m IIRC. As he had such a good AFCON the price went up £250k and we refused. We were a couple of points off top four at the time and had three senior centre backs. Two got injured, Kouyate got moved from midfield and we bombed second half of the season. League placings would have comfortably paid for him.bubbles1966 wrote: It's ludicrous how often he's been touted on here over the last two-three years. They could have had him for about £4m, IIRC.
Moved to Anderlecht the following summer - £3.4m. Leicester were told £15m was the price in January according to press.
Still think he'd improve us personally but can't justify spend on CB over the main key four positions

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
It really is, considering Kouyate spent his whole time there playing as a centre back, and Tielemans is a creative central midfielder.jonbentleywhu wrote:kouyate 153 appearances - 4 goals

Point is, Tielemans is the sort of player we should be trying to sign if we want to a) improve the team, b) move to the mythical next level, and c) make a statement. He's not going to be some £30m/£40m striker - his asking price is consistently reported as between £20m and £25m which should be affordable to us, his wages don't break the bank currently and I'm sure we could offer him an improvement in them were he to come here.
Do I think it will happen? No. Do I think it could happen? Yes if we tried.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
These are our 14 most recent signings going back three windows, in reverse chronological order. A thing of wonder.
What do you call the opposite of a hot streak?
Emmanuel Emenike
Sam Byram
Havard Nordtveit
Sofiane Feghouli
Ashley Fletcher
Gökhan Töre
André Ayew
Arthur Masuaku
Jonathan Calleri
Simone Zaza
Edimilson Fernandes
Álvaro Arbeloa
Jose Fonte
Robert Snodgrass
Almost be a shame to see the streak broken by signing someone useful. Almost.

That's extremely harsh on at least four of those players, in my opinion.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017 Targets
Some bad and some good. The bad will always outweigh the good with the kind of season we've had. Hoping the good get the chance to show how good they are / can be next season.Aceface wrote:These are our 14 most recent signings going back three windows, in reverse chronological order. Emmanuel Emenike Not great
Sam Byram Who knows how this will end up but I'm not overly hopeful
Havard Nordtveit Think he will be much better next season if played in his proper position
Sofiane Feghouli Have had a lot worse but still a useful option
Ashley Fletcher Not given a chance
Gökhan Töre Everyone was excited about this one but just didn't work out
André Ayew Started to score some goals now and is useful
Arthur Masuaku Good signing. Will be our starting LB next season
Jonathan Calleri Sulli special - to be expected
Simone Zaza Terrible.
Edimilson Fernandes Big hopes for him next season
Álvaro Arbeloa One of the strangest signings I've known
Jose Fonte Euro winning defender. Good player but in a bad team at the mo
Robert Snodgrass He's a good player but was a panic buy. Almost felt like we were buying Hull's best player to rock their boat so they went down instead of us
Almost be a shame to see the streak broken by signing someone useful. Almost.
