West Ham Utd 1-0 Tottenham (05/05/17)

Re: West Ham Utd vs Tottenham: match thread
It's marginally less awful that Chelsea win it, that's about the most sportive spin I can put on it. Helps that I only know one Chelsea supporter - and he works at West Ham!

Yes mate, saw that from the BML, like you couldn't believe the lino didn't see it as was right near him!wobble wrote:On another note did anyone else see Son kick Cresswell early in the first half down by the corner flag near BM / East stand end.
It wasn't just a tap but I full on deliberate kick, Cresswell called out to the linesman who was standing right in front of them but he just ignored everything.

Re: West Ham Utd vs Tottenham: match thread
just popped onto their forum for a laugh again and came across this little gem especially number 2
I am re-watching the game for my sins and a few things stand out:
1) That is a properly ****, quiet stadium.
2) Spurs fans still outsung Wham. Which makes sense, as Spurs fans are fully evolved human beings with the power of speech.
3) Hugo was right, we were a bit complacent and sloppy. It could be the mental fatigue of having to constantly chase with no margin for error.
4) We played far too narrow with less of the lateral switches we've used to stretch teams.
5) Regardless, West Ham, at their best, are only as good as us at our literal worst.

I've bumped into away fans at every game over there so far but not Friday. I did not see or hear any of them until I got in the ground and for a team going for a league title I thought the support was pony. I trust no single lads or teenage scarfers were singled out for an eye socket shattering? Cowards.

The toilet adjacent to 240 at full time...
Busy naturally especially as no early departures, narrow entrance/exit, normally heads down moaning about the bottleneck.
Surreal seeing all ages, heads held high, shuffling around, finding a space, pishing and shuffling out again, without interrupting their " Tottenham messed it up " chanting.
I don't mind admitting it was our Cup Final..at least we had one !

Re: West Ham Utd vs Tottenham: match thread
I am surprised by the very positive media reaction to our performance in truth
Don't get me wrong, it was a great result and we showed a lot of fight and desire but overall the 'quality' of our football was pretty average IMHO. I don't remember us putting together that many attacking moves of note, or making Lloris make that many saves from decent football from us
We battled hard, harassed and harried, cut out errors and and Bilic got our tactics right to contain and negate Spurs, but we have 'played' better this season from an attacking sense IMHO

I think it's respectful of the opposition to be honest, and prior history of our performance against those towards the top of the table (ie - tonked, and frequently).Crouchend_Hammer wrote:I am surprised by the very positive media reaction to our performance in truth

I was honestly surprised at just how large a goal difference Spurs have, for example - so given all of those aspects, for us to be the better side in that game was magnificent, IMO.

Re: West Ham Utd vs Tottenham: match thread
With regard to how quiet their fans were: One of our crowd was away on a stag so my niece had his ticket and a first visit to the stadium. About 10 minutes into the second half she asked where they put the away fans as she could not hear them.
For a team trailing by only 1 goal and in a crucial game I could not believe that so many left before the end.

Re: West Ham Utd vs Tottenham: match thread
They arrived en masse at Hackney Wick about 45 mins before the game with perhaps the biggest police escort I have ever seen. They were as quiet as mice, hardly a peep from them despite the numbers.Porkeyes wrote:I've bumped into away fans at every game over there so far but not Friday. There were no West Ham fans standing behind the police lines goading or picking on the youngsters whilst the police film to see if they can nick anyone that reacts. (copyright WHL) .
One of their ranks shouted '*** army' at the West Ham fans who were watching in silent bemusement.
One West Ham fan shouted back with 'shut up you mug', and that was just about the end of it.
They also departed very early (its a long way back to Walthamstow from Stratford).

The bit that makes me grin (very wide!) is about 2:05 in and the pair of handpumps start laughing at our line-up (in particular, that AC isn't even on the bench) and wanting to change their score prediction.sendô wrote:I've just got to post this again for those that missed it.

Despite obviously the fact that West Ham proved to be better than Spurs...??psychoscoredthelot wrote:5) Regardless, West Ham, at their best, are only as good as us at our literal worst.
The number of Spurs fans I have heard talking about how they did so well to close the gap on Chelsea from 10 points... yet by the time Tottenham next kick a ball, the gap could be... yep... 10 points with Chelsea confirmed as champions.
The other great come back from their fans has been to point out how little we have won in the past few decades... completely overlooking the fact that their cabinet is looking a little empty these days too.
They are unreal. No humility at all. They have been a very decent side this year, and were for most of last year too... but the fans are just unbearable, dread to think what they would be like if they actually won anything.
