A mix of ambitiously stellar motivational management, the owners backing the supporters the right way and thus the supporters backing the team, other teams weakened that season for some reason, two stellar players (that season), but essentially just ****ing incredible management which led to a fearless mentality. We don't quite have that.

We finished above Leicester last year and we were pretty blinding just two years ago.

Slav's biggest issue at the moment is the absence of Kouyate - arguably our best CB, arguably our best combative midfielder, arguably the only CM we have who will score 5 goals a season (pens excluded).

A decent workout to clear the pipes and against some of the best players they will come up against this campaign. It can only be a positive exercise, even down to identifying silly mistakes.

It gets real Sunday week...get behind the lads and the manager, it's going to be a decent ride...

Apart from the difference in class, the other thing that I noticed, was that we approached the game like a friendly. Citeh were all over us from the off, playing like it was a "proper" game.

Pep mentality. Been like this all through pre season. Even when they're 2 nil up, he won't settle. He still looks stressed out, he still shouts. He doesn't do "friendlies". And this is also why this team is likely to win it this year.

The OS reports an injury depleted side

West Ham United: Hart, Zabaleta (Byram 46), Fonte, Ogbonna, Masuaku, Obiang, Noble (c) (Rice 46), Ayew (Holland 86), Fernandes (Makasi 86), Arnautovic (Snodgrass 62), Martinez (Chicharito 46)
Subs not used: Adrian (GK), Collins

Doesnt look that injury depleted to me!

Lol @ the people who couldn't wait to pounce on Hart after the first goal

I have no real opinion on his signing and think it could go either way. Just thought it was funny that people felt the need to jump on him after that goal. If Oggy felt flustered he should have clipped it down the line. Simple as that

Reid, Kouyate, Antonio, Lanzini represents more than a third of our starting 11.( Ignoring Carroll and Sakho because we should.}

It's missing our spine for next season. Reid, Kouyate, Lanzini and hopefully a decent senior striker in Chico. I'd say that's pretty depleted

This lot generally muller us when it matters, let alone a pre-season friendly when they're at virtually full strength and we've got half a side. There's a few in this thread that need to calm down and quite frankly should know better. We are not competing with Manchester City. Now or ever as long as this lot are in charge so accept it.

That said, we've bought four good players (whoopee) but shipped a bunch out and spent basically f*** all (imagine that?). We are at least three short: a striker, an attacking mid and a proper DM. They all need to be of first eleven quality. If we don't get them then it's been another 'just do the bare minimum' window from the schnorrers despite the Hernandez hooha. I ain't holding my breath.

a few injuries and we are very short. as has been said we are competing with the top 6 but we should at least give it a go.
as last season no one could get near yaya. he`s getting slower but still too quick for noble and co.

Leicester won the league because they unearthed the best DM around .No coincidence that Chelsea did same following season.Yet it's a position we chose to ignore and wonder why we keep conceding shed loads of goals.Never actually realised Kante was bought as a winger.Pretty genius that Raineri converted him to a DM.

Kante has played about 150 career games as a CM/DM, when was he a winger?

we can compete, but not without our best players in a friendly where no-one wants to push themselves beyond 80%. probably under instruction.

and we were every bit as good as leicester that season.

So he basically signed a career DM, tried playing him out of position for a bit before realising he was still a better DM, genius! :D
