West Bromwich Albion 0-0 West Ham Utd (16/09/17)

Post by HammerMan2004 »

Surprised this hasn't already appeared but here goes...

Same lineup? Or does Carroll drop to the bench with Chicharito up top and Arnautovic wide left?

I would have Carroll on the bench for this one. West Brom defence will cope with Carroll a lot better. Also we can't risk Carroll getting injured.

I would go:

-----------------------Hart--------------------------
Zabaleta--Fonte--Reid--Collins--Cresswell
---------------Obiang----Rice----------------------
-----Antonio-------------------Arnautovic--------
------------------Hernandez------------------------

Subs:
Adrian, Byram, Kouyate, Noble, Ayew, Sakho, Carroll

The potential Bench does look incredibly strong when we get everyone back fit and not suspended.
Got to stick with the 3 at the back with 2 wingbacks - I will trust in Bilic to choose the rest

West Brom will be looking to bounce back and Pulis always makes them extremely hard to beat at the Hawthorns. I'm predicting a 1-1 draw

I'd probably stick with Kouyate ahead of Rice, but apart from that this looks spot on to me. Masuaku likely instead of Noble on the bench too I'd assume unless we've heard he's back.

Hope we don't get carried away and stick with Carroll up top off the back of one half-decent return. Will be tempting fate on the injury front given how long he's been out for while also playing into Pulis's hands at the same time.

P - W - D - L
12 - 2 - 1 - 9
12 - 5 - 4 - 3

Results so far in 2017.
One of those is games we started with a back 4.
One is games we started with a back 3.

Have a guess at which is which before suggesting any teams.

SPOILER
(those of you choosing 4 at the back should also go lump on WBA to win)

For all those driving (including me) the M5 has some roadworks and you should give yourself an extra 40 mins.

Arnie Doesnt deserve to come straight back in considering the manner in which he was sent off

for me the team should be as follows

-----------------Hart

--------Fonte--Reid---Collins

Zabs-----Obiang--Kouyate---Cresswell

-----Antonio----------Ayew

---------------Hernandez

how ayew deserves to be benched ill never know... the guy came on provided an assist and a goal yesterday.. basically changed the game

andy needs to be saved for second half.. evans will deal with him all day long

I think we'll largely see the same team, if not exactly the same, but I'd personally tweak it a little.

-------------------- Hart ---------------------
-------- Fonte -- Reid --- Collins -------
Zab ----- Obiang -- Kouyate --- Cress
------------------- Ayew ---------------------
-------- Hernandez - Carroll -------------

Would rather try and get more from Hernandez than play Antonio, and Ayew deserves to play after his cameo in my opinion. I suppose an option would be to put Antonio at right midfield and Zabaleta on the bench or in the back three.

Although I dislike the 5 at the back, especially with full backs in the wing back role, it would not make sense to change for this game where essentially we will be playing for a 0-0 draw and hope to nick one from a set piece Allardyce style

Keep the back 7 the same, and bring in Ayew for Carroll

If we were playing with a bit more confidence, i would prefer to play as follows (4-3-2-1), but this will never happen:

Hart
Zab
Fonte
Reid
Cresswell
Obiang
Kouyate
Noble - (furthest forward of the three)
Ayew
Antonio
Hernandez

It's nothing to do with confidence. For whatever reason it's been proven over the last 18 months that this squad cannot defend with a flat back four and 2 in front of them.

We either need to play 2 centre backs with 3 proper midfielders (think back to Song/Kouyate/Noble) in front or 3 centre backs with 2 proper midfielders in front of them.

You'd drop Antonio? Did you watch last night? He's our biggest threat by a country mile.

I'd go along with this... although still not sure on Fonte, he seems a bit of a donkey :)

-------------------Hart
-------- Zaba Collins Reid
Antonio Obiang Kouyate Cresswell
-------------- Arnie
---------Hernandez Carroll

no need to start carroll for this one. a midfield of kouyate, obiang, arnautovic and antonio is enough physicality, with hernandez buzzing off the last man.

he was the perfect tool to deal with wagner's high press. pulis is a very different proposition.
