Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
My choice would be:
Adrian
Zab
Fonte
Reid
Masuaka
Obiang
Kouyate
Lanzini
Sakho
Antonio
Hernandez
or three at the back with Ogbonna coming in, Hernandez starting on the bench, and Lanzini in a slightly wider role with Sakho down the middle
However, pretty sure Bilic will play Carroll and 80 minutes of hoofball will ensue

Why would you put our recent defensive record at stake for reinstating him?
The results with him being in and out of the side this season is damning evidence alone and he doesn't warrant a starting place based on any form whatsoever.

Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
I wouldn't put him in. I would play 4 at the back
However, if Bilic wants to play 3 CBs, there are not that many other options

I see. I'd sooner play young Rice at the back in a 3 ahead of him.
Fonte Reid Rice
Ogbonna would be a last resort.

I don't have the issue with Ogbonna that you do
Wouldn't bother me hugely if he was picked over Fonte to be honest

Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
As much as I've criticised Fonte in the past for us, recently I wouldn't drop him as he's found form again and been a part of our defensive upturn in results and performances. I wouldn't dream of dropping him for Ogbonna.
Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
I don’t see Bilic dropping the back 3, Fonte can’t be dropped at the moment. He’s been the best out of the 3 for the last few games. Fonte Reid Oggy I’m really hoping to see a decent performance here. Masuaku has got to start also Lanzini. Would like to see Noble on the bench also but I don’t see that happening.

Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
Evening Std article suggests we may bench Hernandez...alongside Sakho. So presumably we are considering playing Carroll alone up front (and boy will he be alone) - we can kiss goodbye to quick counterattacks.
Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
Over from Australia to visit family and this is the one match that's on while I'm here. Beggars can't be choosers, I spose.
My first live game since the playoff final in 2012, and I'm hoping to make it 3/3 as my only other match was Boxing Day 2004 when we beat Forest.

Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
Hernandez was back on Thursday and didn't play for Mexico in their second match, so he should be pretty well rested. Don't buy that jet lag would hold him back either - Reid went much further (to Japan) and is fully expected to start.
If he is put on the bench it is for tactical reasons by Bilic. As I said I would start him up top with Sakho and Carroll on the bench.

That's what I'd like to see dodger, think that partnership has real potential!dodger wrote:

Can't help but think Slav will start Carroll though, if not just for his defensive abilities at set peices.
Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
What I'd like Slav to do:
Hart
Kouyate Fonte Reid
Zabaleta Lanzini Obiang Masuaku
Antonio Hernandez Arnautovic
What I think Slav will do:
Hart
Zabaleta Fonte Reid Cresswell
Kouyate Noble
Antonio Lanzini Arnautovic
Carroll
I think Sakho does deserve a chance but not sure where he'd fit in to either formation (Slav won't drop Carroll) and I don't want to shoe-horn him into an unnatural position on the wing.

Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
Slav seemed to suggest that Cheech would not be starting....
In which case it would suggest its AC upfront.... with Sakho on the bench... because I cannot see Slav playing AC with Sakho at the start of this or most other games...

Bilic has also suggested that this weekend sees the first time we can play with our strongest team, the team they tried to build over the summer.Fishdo wrote:Slav seemed to suggest that Cheech would not be starting....
Could be interesting.

Assuming both are fit - the all whites clash of Winston vs Woods should be interesting.

Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
Leaving Chicarito on the bench is madness. Starting Andy Carroll is madness. I hope, at the very least that the first one is wrong.
Re: Burnley v West Ham Utd: match thread
I think if Slav uses Cheech then it will be up to the player himself due to only returning today after international..TheHandOfDog wrote:Leaving Chicarito on the bench is madness. Starting Andy Carroll is madness. I hope, at the very least that the first one is wrong.
As mentioned earlier Slavs starting 11 is going to be the first game this season that he can be judged by most.. for me I think it will go some way to seeing if there are certain obligations on certain players having to play...
I would love to see a 2 up top start... but given our defensive frailties and balance in the middle I can’t see Slav taking the chance.... I think he has found himself now in a siege mentality and his choice will reflect that unfortunately
Going to be a tough game regardless.... performance is key I think
