To me, the Vulcan is as iconic and awe-inspiring as the Lancaster or the Spitfire. Although it doesn't have the combat history, the sheer size, sound and shape of it make it one of Britain's most amazing pieces of aviation engineering. I remember seeing it for the first time at an air display at Headcorn a couple of years ago and it was jaw-droppingly awesome. Completely blew me away.

Somewhere on the web there'll be a copy of a R4 programme from a few years ago detailing the use of the Vulcans in the Falklands conflict. Fascinating stuff.

One of the reasons I kept a VCR was having films like Harvey on video and not seeming to be able to buy it on DVD. On saturday we were early and went in HMV to kill time, I found and bought Harvey so will be watching it tonight. 8-)

If you haven't read it, Vulcan 607 is a superb read. The planning and the number of aircraft required to get one bomber to the Falklands is mind blowing.

Put it on your Christmas list

Think I've seen that (might have been iPlayer) and what had to be done to get one bomber down there was quite hair-raising. No spoilers, but it's well worth watching.

Excellent - it looks like he saw the penalty spot in his peripheral vision and thought that was the ball!!

It's the double-take I like.
Swings at the 'ball', it takes a split-second to realise that he hasn't actually kicked something and looks completely confused!

Having the advert for the "Wish" shopping app pop up on my Facebook, today's trending items are Picatinny Rails for rifles and a natty knuckle duster.
They must know I work in south London....... :)

Arbeloa - you know, that great signing, on twitter he said something along the lines "better late than never", then the parody accounts got hold of it and absolutely slaughtered him

Discovering that my kitchen fitter (a great bloke, as it goes) drives a Transit with double "Ford GT" stripes and 18" alloys. Dunno what it is about jacked-up Transits that always makes me chuckle.

Catching up on Sunday's Robot Wars, when this battle made me laugh out loud.
Somehow, one of the robots manages to self-destruct. As it does so, it sends a spinning metal bar weighing 40kg flying across the arena, and it smashes through the polycarbonate wall.
There's a brilliant shot at about 2:25, of the hosts reaction when it explodes.
I imagine it might have been a touch disconcerting if you were sat in the arena watching, but it was hilarious sat at home!

Finding ' Lily ' our next door but one neighbours' collie dog up on top of the scaffolding with 6 of our builders , Lord only knows how any of them didn't trip over her - as soon as she saw me she jumps down , gets a stick and lays it at my feet for me to throw for her . Lovely dog , was here today as well .
