Think we will play a number of the kids in this. League is obviously the priority.

Just out of curiosity, why are we concerned around the full names being used in the match threads? Did I miss the memo :?

Not a memo as such, but I saw a couple of comments about respecting every club's tradition. There's good reasons for the names..I remember a Hull City fan on here not that long ago, gutted he was about what happened to his team. I agree with the principle. Respect the Shrews. And then hammer them, haha.

Yeah sure, fair play

I have no problem with it at all, it was just something I'd not noticed happening until recently with a few match posts being closed down so wondered if I'd missed something lol.

I expect Hart to start, good chance to give him a run out.

I’d go with:

——————-Hart
——Oxford—Collins—Rice
Kouyate—-Noble—Quina—Haksabanovic
——————Ayew
————Hernandez—Carroll

In defence Rice should keep his place and this seems the perfect game to give Oxford a run out with Collins adding experience. You might say, do we really need to play 5 at the back against a League 2 team, but I’d argue it will be 3 at the back and it’s good to play in a settled system.

In midfield, Zabaleta certainly needs a rest so Kouyate can fill in, or Antonio if fit. Then I’d mix experience with youth playing the two youngsters and Noble with Ayew filling Lanzini’s usual spot, while Arthur gets a well needed break.

Up top, for me Hernandez has to play, he needs game time and he needs to play in a game where we will create chances. He is a world class poacher and made for games where we will no doubt have most of possession, plus a goal would do his confidence the world of good. I’d pair him with Carroll, who could also do with some game time and a couple more goals.

-----------------------------Hart
---------------Reid------Oxford-----Rice
Zabaleta--------Noble-------Haksabanovic------Masuaku
-----------------------------Ayew
------------------Martinez-------Hernandez

Need to keep people fresh and that is still more than strong enough to win. Hopefully Antonio is fit so can swap with Zaba at half time.

They are flying in league 1, and by all accounts play an attractive way.

Being tipped as an upset by the hipsters.

That surely is the right mix of young and experience

A few weren't risked yesterday but were apparently close to being on the bench (Arnie and Cresswell... Carroll was only there to make up numbers).

I'd like to see us use this game to really show we are going to take this seriously... now that we've got through this xmas period in a healthier position than we went into it.

Hart, Johnson, Rice, Collins / Reid, Cresswell, Kouyate, Noble, Quina, Ayew, Hernandez, Carroll

For me this is a game for playing players back into form. As such Kouyate, Obiang and Reid go again. I also think it is a game made for Carroll. Rice is rested and in comes Oxford.

Quite a few players have got to have a well earned rest. I'm sure Joe Hart will get a game in goal, Ginge at the centre of our defence, probably Cresswell at LB, don't know he can put in at RB, but Zabs needs a rest, Haksabanovic should start, as will Fernandes, Ayew and Hernandez and give Reece Oxford a chance too

Hart sure to play against his old club. Will need some seasoned players in the mix. They are flying in L1, although a couple of friends who are diehard supporters are pointing out that(unlike the championship) this season the quality in that division isn't as high as recent seasons.

I've been to the New Meadow once ,a couple of seasons ago, it's modern, breeze block , soulless place,a long way out of town (the old Gay Meadow was a beautiful old style place). If you're going by car, parking within a mile of the ground is HORRENDOUS ,my suggestion, go into town, and bus/cab out to the ground. We should have the whole away end, their lot aren't massively vocal( there are more than a few damn good banjo players though).

I worry about the local plod, especially around the station, hope I'm wrong.

Martinez to make his mark.....2 - 4.

Anyone going by train?? Pubs in town??? (There ain't much near the ground ).

Indeed. They used to employ a guy to sit in a coracle on the River Severn to retrieve any matchball that landed in the water.

Never been before so looking forward to this.

Hope we go for the win though although can't see us fielding a strong team.

I can feel a very unhelpfull draw coming up here.
