Re: Shrewsbury Town F.C. v West Ham United: Match thread
We played 8 non-attacking players against Cheltenham, a struggling League Two side, earlier this season.
I don't remember many, if any, complaints about a too defensive team then. Difference is some of the senior players performed a bit better, not much but enough to win the game.
In this game we may have had more attempts if we were capable of keeping the ball or if our £35m strike force got involved. The personnel should have been good enough to win, they just didn't perform again.

I just looked it up, in the Cheltenham game we had 12 shots, 4 on target and scored 2 goals. So yeah, no complaints. I still fail to see why the performance is being defended, there was no will to win the game.Iron Mark wrote:We played 8 non-attacking players against Cheltenham, a struggling League Two side, earlier this season.

From the BBC text commentary on the Brighton v Palace game
Adam Oldroyd: I fail to understand why players who have won nothing during their entire careers don't want to win the FA Cup ? I guess that's why they have won nothing!!

I tend to agree with Mr P. Its easy to be critical with hindsight and be full of should of's and could of's when its not your arse on the line. Even our so called 'greats' Greenwood and Lyall delivered equally poor performances and results, with much better players - trust me, over a longer period of time. Perhaps its an age thing, but like Mr P I am just pleased we are still in the hat.

They did, trust me on that one. I saw loads of them, hot dinners and all that. We played some disgusting stuff in the 1973/74 season, when we didn't get our first home win until the November. It wasn't all Mills and Bloom romantic novels under these two, far from it and don't forget our shocking season under Johnny Lyall of 1988/9 which saw us relegated and him deservedly in my view, getting the boot

Was pleased with the saves by Hart & the youngsters performances.
Was very pleased we weren't away at Forest.
And pleased to still be in the FA Cup.
Very sad we don't have the players & attitude of WHU 1980.

They drew at home with the team one place above Shrewsbury in the league. They also should've lost to us on a day where we terrible. They are pretty similar to how we were under Slav tbh.prophet:marginal wrote:
Them aside, Bournemouth at least have a go in attack, even if their defence is a liability.
The Shrewsbury result is another one for the anti-Moyes brigade to come out in force. Makes me wonder how many of them wanted the blue and amber to knock us out.
Great post from TPP above.

Think you might be extrapolating a touch far away from my original point, there, Geno.
I was simply saying that a neutral might find their football a little more energising than ours at the moment.
I'm actually all part of the section of fans who would trade 17th and a -40 g/d for another final, but, as noted repeatedly, I'm tucked up here on the sidelines these days, the occasional away my only real football.

Brady reckons they invented K4A£ while at Brum, I'm sure she'll mention that agin soon for the replay
She'll carry on to say K4£50+ (Kids for £50 and above) for Cat A games
