Tomorrow I fulfil a lifelong dream of leaving a long term job without telling anyone I'm off.

Nope, only found out from my new boss yesterday. I guess it's been on the cards for a while, but no-one in my current office will know. Been here 6 years - I'm well into middle age now, so I'm long past wanting much of a social life from work beyond the occasional pint after work or visit to watch AFC Wimbledon play. I'm purely in it for the money :)

Unclear at the moment - I don't even have a new contract yet, though they're preparing something, apparently. I suspect I'll be doing something vaguely similar to what I was doing for my previous firm (servers & storage management) and I'll be continuing to provide services to my former colleagues until they're sold off. Bit of an odd situation, really.

I have no idea how long this is going to last, and may very well end up with me being made redundant at some point - my new manager is unlikely to stick around very long, as their office in the US is being relocated 1500 miles away (which makes my change from a 6 mile commute to a 7 mile one seem pretty straightforward). At any rate, I've got something to do for the short term at least, which is perhaps better than where I thought I'd be 6 months ago.

Good luck Dan.

For once I really do have something to break into a grin for:Tonight I'm off to my sister's in Helston for a long weekend. Excellent in a stand alone way, but best of all tomorrow and Sunday I'll be at Marazion marshes, just before dusk, watching the starlings come in to roost. Will I hold back the tears? History suggests not!

[So bollox to the M5,A30,Temple roadworks etc,I'd crawl there if I had to.]

Being in the right place at exactly the right time. Browsing a local selling group on Facebook just as some bird who clearly had no idea of it's value stuck up a black Fender Strat she found in her loft after moving in to a house for £50, and then managing to knock her down to £40 quid upon collection. 8-)

Needed a good clean and the strings were rusted, but jesus, I've just got myself a Strat for £40!

That's the sort of thing most people only dream of, I'm insanely jealous.

Put its details in here and see what pops out.

That's a great score there. Top bartering too!

I got a Warwick bass worth over £700 for £110 on eBay years ago when the bloke put it up as a "Watkins" bass (which it clearly wasn't).

Shameful! :D

Early MIM Strats like yours had bodies and necks made at the USA Corona factory. Most were made of poplar in a different production area to the standard American bodies, but some of the real early ones had alder bodies made on the 'proper' production lines and these are quite sought after.

If you loosen the neck screws a little and the neck waggles side to side a bit, it's likely to be one of the poplar ones. If the neck is a tight fit in the pocket, I'll give you as much as 60 quid for it.

You probably know all this, but the geek in me speaks loudly.

Also, some of the early MIM Strats had pickups left over from the last Japanese Squier Strats, which were really really good. Others had some cheap ceramic magnet pickups which were a bit gash.

If you ever get round to looking, the pony pickups have two small bar magnets on the underside. The decent ones have one larger one.
