Re: A thread to discuss depression and other mental issues...
Great to hear Matt.
I certainly would still consider talking to someone though, as an when you feel comfortable enough to do so.
I understand completely, your point about writing to someone instead of talking to them.
You don't have that feeling of not doing yourself justice or clamming up instead of letting out what you need to.
On the flip side, you don't quite get that emotive response that you do with a face to face discussion, but you need to be absolutely comfortable in doing so.
Keep us updated mate

Re: A thread to discuss depression and other mental issues...
You're probably right RARS in fairness.
Just something I still find difficult to do.
One day I might get there!!
I've done a lot of soul searching over the last few weeks and I know that something I need to do more of is step out of my comfort zone so maybe that's something to aim towards. Baby steps though!

Matt - you're totally right ... baby steps are the right way to go to getting there. It's admirable that you have posted on KUMB and could inspire someone else.matthewbd wrote:You're probably right RARS in fairness.

Didn't want to put this in NUMB, but relevent I think to this thread
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-42901550
Quite shocking in this day and age, even for Scotland.
Also I'm not sure whether this has been mentioned previously (apologies it's not a thread I frequent very often) but for those who find it hard to talk face to face or on the phone, there is an online service called Ieso
https://www.iesohealth.com/en-gb
which is a free to use service in a lot (but not all) areas on the NHS.
I can't vouch for whether it works but thought I would add it and people can decide whether it may work for them.

Over the moon for you fella. And over the moon this thread has helped you in some ways. As others have said, keep us all up to date mate.matthewbd wrote: I just want to say thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my post, and to Officer Dibble for his email.
From the bottom of my heart - thank you.
I've still got a way to go but currently, I'm much more optimistic about everything.I just need to keep working on myself!
Interesting find HD. Will see if I can find some evaluations of this service. Looks decent!hammerdivone wrote:Also I'm not sure whether this has been mentioned previously (apologies it's not a thread I frequent very often) but for those who find it hard to talk face to face or on the phone, there is an online service called Ieso

Re: A thread to discuss depression and other mental issues...
And to you mate.
One thing I've found, there IS help available if you look in the right places, but most of all there's support and understanding all over,in places and from people, you'd least expect .
You can be the very lonest,of lone wolves (if you get my meaning) but this is one that you need other people to hang on to ,every now and again.
I find the support and honesty on this thread really encouraging. For me personally, thankyou all.

I agree - Chris needs help and quick .Hugh Jargon II wrote:Ok. I mean this with good intentions. I doubt very much (With respect) kindness from anyone on here will help. Christopher should, in my opinion, be in care with professional help.
If anyone knows him (or can identify him to me) send me a pm. I think I can help.
I've been talking to an old friend of mine who has suffered from drug and alcohol abuse since he was in his late teens [ coincidentally , another Chris ] - I went to visit him while he was in re-hab in Plymouth a couple of years ago now as he was allowed out after two months - he was in rehab for a total of 6 months [ two seperate places ] , his support workers found him a nice flat in a residential block - after a year clean he fell by the wayside again and is currently in re-hab again , this time only for 2 weeks . He is determined to remain clean this time , I'll be phoning him up this afternoon .
If my friend Chris can get this type of help , surely there is something that can be done for East London Hammer - Well done Hugh for offering to help , let's hope Chris replies and takes you up on your offer .

Re: A thread to discuss depression and other mental issues...
This is really hard for me.
I am 60 and retired and live alone. Last year after breezing through life (although I have always been someone who worries) in the space of 3 three months had a double hernia and as a result it was discovered I may have prostate cancer and hit sixty.
At first I sort of coped and was eventually referred back to my GP for regular blood tests re the prostate which is the best I could have hoped for but in the three months between my 1st hospital appointment and the follow up I have got lower and lower. It has got to the stage where I am finding it increasingly hard to function with the smallest things sending me into panic.and depression. It has got to the stage where if there was a painless way to end it I would consider taking it (illogical I know killing yourself over something that may kill you) although I couldn't do this to my elderly parents and brother.
I have been seeing a counsellor which helps briefly but I soon sink back down. I have also seen my GP who prescribed Citalopram but I really don't want to start on this route a] because the leaflet says you may get worse before you get better which terrifies me. b] Becoming reliant on them.
I have recently joined my local David Lloyd to try Yoga and swim again ( I have always exercised which gives me a temporary lift) and try to fill the day as I tend to sit at home stewing.
I am at my wits end as to how to make things better any suggestions would be welcome ( I would add my friends and family have been brilliant but I hate have to keep loading this on them).

Bongo, exercise is really good for helping so keep that up and try walking as well.
Another suggestion is to try and socialise more, have you tried something like this https://menssheds.org.uk/ ?

Simon Thomas, of Sky Sports News etc, has started blogging about his battles.
Worth a read I found. https://agriefshared.com/2018/02/09/my-secret-battle/

Re: A thread to discuss depression and other mental issues...
Basic advice I know but a healthy diet always helps me. As has cutting down my alcohol intake, which completely goes out of the window come matchdays. Find myself extremely low for a couple of days after. I'm fairly sure that's not a bit to do with the dirge i've just witnessed on the pitch....
Good luck Bongo
