Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions
Even without the radioactive waste, the problem is getting rid of all the spoils from digging down. When the stadium was built they had a railway track to move materials in and waste out - that's long since gone. Originally it was all wasteland - now it's surrounded by park land or building developments underway - there's no way they would agree to hundreds of lorry movements a day to get rid of the stuff.GreenStHammer wrote:Just why is it impossible to dig down at Stratford?
Nothing is impossible.
If the stadium was built there, then surely the ground is workable, or can be made workable.
Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions
Maybe an old technology would work, isn’t the stadium on an island surrounded by canals, there must be a few old barges available.....Wembley1966 wrote: there's no way they would agree to hundreds of lorry movements a day to get rid of the stuff.

Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions
Sorry, gotta post it again..
'Once In A Lifetime' by Talking Heads (alternative lyrics)
[Verse 1]
And you may find yourself sitting in a soulless bowl
And you may find yourself in another part of Newham
And you may find yourself behind someone eating popcorn
And you may find yourself in an athletics stadium, with a terrible board
And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did we get here?"
[Chorus]
Letting the Boleyn go, we let the b*stards sell us out
Letting the Boleyn go, now toxic waste's underground
Into the red again, where's the money gone?
Once in a lifetime, athletics 2017
[Verse 2]
And you may ask yourself, "How can I possibly see that far?"
And you may ask yourself, "Where is that retractable seating?"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful Upton Park"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not the next level"
[Chorus]
Letting our own ground go, dildo brothers let us down
Leased for 98 bleedin' years, Polonium flowing underground
Into the **** again after the stars have gone
Once in a lifetime, Uranium flowing underground
[Bridge]
Shame it was ever us, shame that it wasn't Spurs
Shame it was ever us, shame that it wasn't Hearn
Shame it was ever us, shame we had 2012
Shame it was ever us, same **** it always was
[Verse 3]
Water table rising and Thorium leaking
There is radiation at the bottom of our pitch
So we can't dig down or have claret all around
But don't worry we've got Arnie on the pitch
[Chorus]
Letting the transfers go by, we'll just buy expensive clowns
Letting the goals fly in, we'll soon be heading down
Into the Championship, into the Carabao first round
Under the scaffolding, it is nasty underground
Hearing Sully say, 95% love the ground
Others have first use, running track's still going round
Into the Football League after the Daves's have gone
Once in a lifetime, Muller Games 2018
[Verse 4]
And you may ask yourself, "What is that beautiful ground?"
And you may ask yourself, "That Spurs are gonna have?"
And you may ask yourself, "Were we asked? Were we f..k"
And you may tell yourself, "My God! What have they done?"
[Chorus]
Letting the points go by, letting the board get me down
Getting our dildo's out, Radium flowing underground
Into the ***** again, into the toxic sludge
Under the Orange sheet, rotting ballbag's underground
Letting the points go by, guess who's gonna be going down?
Letting Payet go, Karrens' effing million pounds
Into the red again after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, The Meet 2018
[Bridge]
Same sh*t it ever was, same as it ever was
Worse than it ever was and look where my dildo was
The scaffold isn't holding up, Palace are after us
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
Losing to sh*t teams, same as it ever was
[Outro]
Here a window comes, there goes the window
Same sh*t it ever was, next level it never was
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
Once in a lifetime, can we win a bleedin' cup?
Letting the seasons go by

Samba. David Byrne is in the UK in June, I wonder what the chances are of getting him to sing this?
Cracking work, thanks.

Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions
I don't think this would work as the roof is cantilevered so it would need to be brought down (with the floodlights) for the sides to be changed. Because it's an island... it also makes it slightly harder to change the structure.griff123 wrote:this is the model that west ham should look at if we ever buy that bloody stadium -

Rebuilding the stands inside wouldn't require exterior structural changes though I don't believe.
I think they could improve the halo, and have it extending upwards to cover the awful canvas prints we have. It's a shame the LED facade was ruled out - because of the weight of them
The have f'cked it right up!

Surely they could just dig another big hole and put it in there.Wembley1966 wrote:

Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions
We’re going to be less & less wanted over there as the neighbourhoods around it start getting developed & populated.
With the ball ache & cost of changing the stadium in any which way, we might as well just start again from scratch elsewhere...

Too Many Bubbles?
I was discussing this with my famous nephew the other week.
We don't sing Bubbles as often as we used to and when we do we tend to start it from the "Fortunes always hiding" part.
A possible reason for this is that Bubbles gets played at least 4 times over the PA system at every home game (5 if we win).
Do they really need to play it as the team come out and as the team kick off at the start of both halves?
Surely once before the game is enough.
Also if they are going to play it after the game then pay it no matter what the result. We are not just West Ham when we win, some of us are West Ham because we don't win.
Also there are lots of versions of Bubbles so why not play one of the others now and then?

Why thank you.Ifebbubbles wrote:And the award for the most pointless negative Westham gripe goes to ......
But Bubble is important. I remember when we used to sing it all the way through several times without being prompted.
It is more important (to me) than if we have the word 'London' on our badge or not.

Wasn't it always the reason why the pitch was moved so far away from East Stand to allow for the redevelopment.
