Swansea City 4-1 West Ham Utd (03/03/18)

Post by prophet:marginal »

Well, at least we cannot complain that the end of the season is liable to peter out with meaningless games. If we are going to stay up (and I still back us to do so), we are going to have to earn that right.

This is how next week's opponents lined up yesterday:

Łukasz Fabiański
Defender Federico Fernández
Defender Alfie Mawson
Defender Mike Van Der Hoorn
Defender/Midfielder Kyle Naughton
Defender/Midfielder Martin Olsson
Midfielder Tom Carroll
Midfielder Sam Clucas
Midfielder KI Sung-Yueng
Midfielder/Forward Nathan Dyer
Forward Jordan Ayew

They used all three subs, with ex-Hammer Andre presumably replacing the injured Dyer on 36.

Like us recently, they lost by conceding three plus goals on the ground of a freshly-promoted (well-coached) side.

Their recent form outstrips ours (Swansea 10/15, includes 3 wins; us 5/15, or a point per game).

Looks like they used 5-4-1 away, which will probably be shelved for a more attacking focus against us.

Their 21 goals (in 28 matches) is the polar opposite of Liverpool's.

Here's how I would set us up against this lot. It really has a winner takes all vibe to it.

----------------------------Adrian
----------------Reid*-----Ogbonna----Rice
Byram-------------Zabaleta--Mark----------Cresswell
-------------------------Kouyate**
--------------Arnautovic----------------Hernandez

Finally, it seems madness to rely on players just returning from injury, in place of people who had actually been performing fairly well. The reality here is that we have to galvanise the decent players that we do have.

We must not lose this game.

*Ginge might benefit from a rest, but that's a close call.

**Kouyate can refresh the Fellaini role that yielded us goals at Huddersfield and against another opponent, with long balls ****ed further on for willing runners.

They have been on a great run but came down to earth with a bump against Brighton

We have to target a win here. It is not an easy game by any stretch, but we are in that situation now where two wins and we move right out of trouble. Playing for draws is not the answer

As always, i would prefer we played 4-5-1, with Rice playing the DM role

Adrian
Zab
Ogbonna
Reid
Evra
Rice
Kouyate
Noble
Antonio
Arnie
Hernandez

Within the back 5 formation that is now a given, i would line up as follows:

Adrian
Zab
Reid
Ogbonna
Rice
Antonio
Noble
Kouyate
Lanzini
Arnie
Hernandez

Reid, Collins, Ogbonna, Kouyate, Noble, Lanzini and Arnautovic basically pick themsleves.

The only questions are goalkeeper, wing backs and the fifth man in the central midfield/attack.

This is quite simple for me we have to go for a win in this, even if it increases the possibility of losing.
Win and, as Stoke play Southampton we are six points above the relegation zone.
Also four of the clubs we can overtake above us play each other.
We can then look forward to moving up into the top ten with wins in the next two home games. Safe, comfortable and confident we can they see if we can hack it with the big boys in our tough April games.
4-3-1-2
Arnie & Hernandez the 2
Lanzini the 1
Noble, Kouyate and one other the three.
one other, one other, Ogbonna, one other the four
Adrian in goal.
If I was watching them train all week I would know who the four one others would be.

I'd go for:

--------------------------------Adrian--------------------------------

------------------Collins---Ogbonna---Reid--------------------

-Byram---------------Noble----Kouyate----------------Cresswell-

-------------------------------Lanzini-------------------------------------

-----------------------Antonio----Arnautovic-------------------------

Subs: Hart, Zabaleta, Evra, Rice, Mario, Chicharito, Hugill.

We mustn't pick Zabaleta and Collins. Pick one or the other. Otherwise we'll be too slow at the back. Zabaleta has surely cost us more goals than any other player this season. And yet he is many supporter's HOTY!? :? Go for height and presence in the team too, as that is still a slight weakness of theres. Shame Carroll isn't fit as he would be perfect to involve in this game. Harsh on Chicharito again, but went for Antonio for slightly more pace and physical presence.

Is this Masuaku's last game banned? Missing his pace big time.

I'd personally have Adrian on a last chance saloon too as he is once again getting a little complacent and sloppy.

Big game this. Anything less than 7 points from this game and the following 2 IMO is unacceptable.

Nearly every single time we do that we get turned over and that will surely happen here. We have the players to win so that’s what the game plan should be, attack.

What odds on Andre Ayew scoring the winner?

This is a mustn't loose game.

No he isn't. Since regaining the number 1 spot, he has consistently been one of our better players.

As for not starting with Hernandez, keep doing that and we deserve to get relegated.

We all know Andre Ayew is scoring. I hope we can turn these over but I fear for us.

Gotta play our best players and ones who can pass the ball. I'd also be looking to get Reid in for Collins. Personally, I'd prefer Byram over Zab but that ain't happening.

Adrian
Reid Ogbonna Cresswell
Zaba Noble Kouyate Antonio
Lanzini
Arnie Hernandez

That line up can easily go from 3-4-3 (or 5-3-2) to 4-2-3-1 with ease.

Lanzini needs to be playing, and Cresswell not only passes out from the back, but knows how to cover round his centre backs. Probably been our best defender aside from Ogbonna since moving there.

I would like to see an attacking line. Up for this but probably won't see it happen.

Adrian

Byram. Reid. Ogbonna. Cresswell

Kouyate. (Slot into back three to cover cresswell/byram when they Go forwards

Mario. Noble. Lanzini

Arnie. Hernandez

We are more than capable of tripping over our feet and f**king this right up. Pull Cresswell and Evra out of there and replace with Rice and Antonio, pull Mario and replace with Hernandez, then f**k them up

Win this one, and we will most likely be safe as 6 points above the drop zone, and probably in the top half with 6 of our last 9 at home and Arthur coming back. I would go for a line up something like hammer man or Wilko’s. At this point I am cautiously optimistic.

oops Double post. I think that we match up well with them especially if dyer doesn’t play as they don’t have pace to trouble us and I think that Arnautovic and Chcharito will give their defence nightmares
