Ha, interesting how we build up images of other posters' character. Would make a good thread of its own, if done with good spirits.

Ah, won't necessarily, solve the problem.DrVenk wrote:Automate every f*cking checkout.
The other week, queueing for 1 of 6 auto's, little, fat, so & so, was putting his goods through. Unfortunately, all the while, having a deeply fascinating & important, conversation on his blue-tooth ear piece. This meant that the actual task of self scanning his goods was going v e r y, v e r y, v e r y, slowly. And then he had a problem, for a worker to deal with, just to slow progress, even further. But still carried on with his wireless, conversation, whilst casually looking around, instead of getting on with the job & f***ing off.
Why can't some people do ANYTHING without having a mobile clamped to their ear? Are they that lonely?
Is that particular conversation, THAT important?

Agreed the problem isn't DVD's, clothes etc it's when you've got drink, cigarettes, things people consume or put on their skin etcDasNutNock wrote:Fake Britain on BBC. Showing us lots of footage of local crime squads nicking people for selling knock off DVDs and jewellery, both very high quality. ****ing hell, have they REALLY not got better things to do with their time? Like, you know, going after proper criminals, not people making a few quid for, essentially, a non-crime.
Counterfeit DVDs? Is there really a market for them? Jeez you can download 4k movies using a mobile phone.

F*ck me, the number of aisles blocked by mini-meetings in my local store is ridiculous. "Excuse me - can I get passed?" [Receives glance of annoyance]Samba wrote: Ah, won't necessarily, solve the problem...But still carried on with his wireless, conversation, whilst casually looking around, instead of getting on with the job & f***ing off.
I think it's a question of context. The (predominantly) older ladies who do the stop and chat whilst serving are probably holding onto a sense of the local shop/store being part of a community rather than somewhere you dash into. It's social as well as commercial. Same with the dude on his phone - casually doing his shop, mingling the commercial with a bit of social.
I get all that, but these places are NOT designed to hang about in. They are not designed for browsing. They are designed to herd us in, weave us through aisles, maximise our spending, and get us out of the door as quickly as possible. Who wants to hang about in that? Even the lighting does my head in.
I didn't realise how much this bugged me. I think I am just yearning for the old independent grocery stores and bakeries which engendered a more relaxed approach to food shopping and a sense that you are going to make something rather than merely consume something. And you mingle outside these stores. All in all, a less convenient and efficient way to shop, but infinitely more pleasurable.

Even worse is the amount of people that are clearly looking at their phones whilst driving..
You see it all the time, it's shocking.

White Range Rover (its always white Range Rovers) going at same speed as me on A406 yesterday but drifting across into my lane, got so close it could have caused a collision, gave a toot of indignation, looked across and the driver had head down looking at phone.chigwells finest wrote:

And the reason they dont get nicked? There is nobody about to nick them as far as I can tell, you rarely see a road traffic police car on that stretch of road anymore. It wasnt so long ago you used to see them all the time, stopped up on those lay byes. I get the feeling they only come out now as a response to 999 calls.
That stretch of the A406 between Beckton and Ilford is a complete nightmare at weekend evenings, with what appear to be regular races up and down the road, round the Beckton roundabout (dont worry about the lights being red) and then back again.
Its also normal now to be in the fast (overtaking lane), cut right across to the slow lane, undertake as many cars as possible this way, and then cut right across to the first lane again, at speeds I would guess around the 70-80 mph mark.
They have made hay while the sun shines since they switched all the cameras off , that road is a death trap now.

The A406 between Edmonton and Beckton is possibly the worst stretch of road for bad driving in the South East of England.

Bought a pair of grey Adidas shorts from Sports Direct at lunchtime. Looked at the receipt this afternoon to check the price and it said "Adidas 3 stripe Chelsea short'
Had a minor panic as I thought I had bought some rent boys kit and thoroughly inspected them for a Chelsea badge. Turns out its just the name of that range of shorts, how bloody daft is that.

Re: Little things that irritate you
It really annoys me when someone dies and people say 'xx is no age'
Firstly, sometimes I wonder what this really suggests. I saw it said when Dale Winton died at 62.
Now I guess most of us would consider that too soon to go, but at the same time it's a decent lifespan.
It still irritates me when it is said of someone in their 30's, while still true, it just seems needless to say as usually someone dying young will be in tragic, unexpected circumstances (not that any other death isn't tragic) so it almost seems pointless pointing out age when the real tragedy is the manner of death, be it an accident, terminal illness or whatever else.
