World Cup Squad: Hart out

Post by HammerMan2004 »

Officially announced tomorrow. Breaking news today though, Joe Hart will not be included, as per various media outlets.

Fair play to Southgate. There was no real reason to take Hart and he's simply not delivered.

Cresswell should stand half a chance as only one of the only left footed ball playing centre backs or as a left wing back.

If Hart isn't it, this is exactly why you play other keepers and spread it around during the group stages, we will go into the World Cup with a goalkeeper who hasn't played one competitive fixture.

Who are the alternative left backs or even left footed CB's in a back three?

Young and Delph not in a million years
Betrand has been poor and just relegated
Rose has barely played

I have no skin in the game, but Cresswell has not done nearly enough to justify inclusion. Ryan Sessengnon should be on the plane well before Cresswell.

Not that it changes the point, but Bertrand has not just been relegated.

Someone made a good point in the media the other day. The 3rd choice keeper has a miniscule chance of getting game time, so it can often make more sense to pick an experienced player who can add to the dressing room/ squad camaraderie and provide advice to the other two

Given the inexperience of the rest of our keepers, taking Hart along may not have been a bad idea

I would go with Pope as first choice though (no way it will happen)

What makes you think he is bothered about a left footed centre back? He has used Gomez, Walker, Stones and Maguire...none of which are left footed.

Cresswell has been praised on here for his contribution to our attack, not our defence. He has been poor on plenty of occasions in our back 3. Not sure why you mention Young or Delph either...why would either be considered for a CB position? Cresswell should only be considered in his natural position, in which case he still doesn’t get in. Delph has been fantastic this season for example, and should be ahead of Cresswell for sure.

Cresswell shouldn't be in. He'll probably get in purely for that free kick against the OMG Soccerball Champions Manchester Blue.

I feel a bit sorry for Hart, but you can't argue with the decision. Our defence has been a farce at times, to say nothing of the idiotic shenanigans, such as Sullivan telling the world (and our two existing keepers) that Hart is the best. Yes, he's cost a fortunate and wasn't needed to begin with, but that's hardly his fault, and he's always conducted himself well.

Not for us, or for England presently, but good luck to him in the future.

I'd have taken Hart as 3rd choice as Butland and Pickford have no experience of playing for England or living with the pressure of a mistake, Think Hart may have been useful there but I also can't disagree with Pope going who's also been excellent this year.
