That was some West Ham like defending by SA. They had more defenders on their bums in the box than they do on the sub's bench.

Been like watching a mid table Championship Game. Russia could have been 6-0 up

There needs to be better qualification rules if this Saudi team were the best from their region.

Was utter garbage. No pace, poor touch, doesn’t even look a grafter, nothing about him really. Never make it in the Premier League, Championship standard at best.

More entertaining than I was expecting. Decent start to the World Cup. Long may it continue.

I agree about Smolov. Slow, plodding, overweight, one footed, poor touch. I'm assuming he had an off day, but it will have had to be a very off day for him to be worth all the interest.

Cameroon smashing the f*** out of Argentina remains the greatest opener ever

I suspect Saudi Arabia might not win this World Cup

That's not the way to kick off your World Cup campaign is it ? A 5-0 thumping. The Saudi's ain't coming back from that

Does anyone smell a whiff of Argentina 6-0 Peru from the 1978 World Cup?

Strange performance from Saudi Arabia really. For every misplaced pass (and there were a lot) you had a silky 'we play on the floor' move. But they fell apart really. In qualification, they finished ahead of Australia.

I agree that 48 teams will be a mistake. It's nice to have the odd minnow thrown in, but not 15 of them.

Well Saudi Arabia are an extremely rich country, so do they really need the money?

Yep, just imagine when it's 48 teams and there's a dozen or more Saudi Arabias?

It'll completely devalue the tournament if the group stage games are mostly first rate nations thumping second rate nations 3 or 4 nil.

Apparently the fat dancer from Stoke is in a bit of trouble with the twitterati for appearing to stick his middle finger up at the camera.
