#5 France 2-1 Australia ~ Group C
Or Bayern Munich v Huddersfield
France just like Bayern, have all the talent to sweep all before them, yet may well fall agonisingly short here and Australia, not just because they have Aron Mooy, but they also have a team of grafters to compensate for a lack of technical quality

I notice Huddersfield lost to Wigan in the qualifiers. A worrying form line for the Terriers.

Pavard at right back, don't think he will be at Stuggart much longer if he has a good couple of games.
I mean France should win this, Australia midfield with Jedinak, Mooy and Rogic isn't the worst of the worst, best thing Australia can do is hope for set-pieces.

My wife is from the South of France and she's started the day moaning on about how all the players are of North African origin and how none of them have French surnames and they all speak English better than French.
To me in English.
I should point out she took my English surname when we married.
Absolutely love their mentality to sport in general. They are more cynical and critical than even we are about national teams and sport, but it's absolutely acceptable to start drinking at 11am if the game has started.

I can see a shock here. The weight of expectation versus no real expectation.
On paper France should win this by 3-4 goals

Cracking picture in 4K on iPlayer.
Better than Sky's BBc broadcast
Although slight delay from the live match

Umtiti reminds me of Kouyate and again makes me wonder why we didn't play him (Kouyate) at centre back?

French cheating constantly already, falling over when losing the ball, ****ing injury etc. Ref buying some but not all.

Refereeing has been very poor this game
French go to ground every slight touch.
Also should have been a yellow for the Australian shoulder check

Australia are set up really well, when you consider that none of these players would even get a sniff at the France squad. I thought they might struggle, but France aren't finding this easy.

Everything I like about football (robust challenges\underdogs chanting ole after 2 passes \hard work and commitment) and everything i despise (diving-contact doesn't give you the right to go down\feigning injury\asking for a player to be booked cos 3 times you fell over when he got close\claiming an elbow to get an opponent sent off) all in the opening 20 or so minutes. What makes the diving etc worse for me is it's almost always the "worlds best" that do it the most.
If they're gonna have VAR it should include retrospective action against all this too

Australia are like watching Pullis’ Stoke. They’re not gonna get thumped by anyone.Collison Theory wrote:Australia are set up really well, when you consider that none of these players would even get a sniff at the France squad. I thought they might struggle, but France aren't finding this easy.
But they’re also symptomatic of everything horrible about international football
Re: France v Australia - Match thread ~ Group C
Resolute so far by Australia, still 45 to go, I don't rate France, they will go a reasonable way but Deschamps isn't the manager to do it. Oddly fancy Austrlia to steal this from a set-piece.

I was thinking of Allardyce and Bolton when watching Australia.
They have been good at what they do but it's painful to watch.
High pressing fullbacks and long balls over the top. Mooy has been my MOTM so far
