Re: Refereeng
It makes you realise how short changed we are with the appalling standard in the Premier league.
Generally the refereeing has been very good so far in this World Cup.
I hope the PGMOL are watching this. (Not that it will make any difference).

Re: Refereeng
I agree. The refereeing has been of a very decent standard. The refs don't seem to have Clattenburg syndrome where the spectacle is all about them. That helps.

Re: Refereeng
Yeah they've largely got it spot on.
I'm not convinced they've got the whole VAR thing right yet. Why not have the 4th official do it? Why some things and not others? Why when the ball is out of play? Why not once it's restarted etc? Why give that pen to France?
Better than the PL by some distance at present though.

Re: Refereeng
That ref was really poor , gave silly fouls and none of the obvious and let time wasting go and firtunately it backfired on the Tunisianssomerset-hammer wrote:Worst display of the tournament tonight.

Re: Refereeng
Three times Kane was half-Nelsoned to the ground tonight, in full view. Meanwhile a pen was given at the other end for a slightly wayward arm. I'm hardly England's last great patriot, but that was shocking refereeing tonight.

Re: Refereeng
Up to last night I also think the refereeing has been very good in the main. Nice to be positive about that side of the game.
Last night was just WTF from the onfield ref & VAR, how VAR missed the pen on Kane I don't know, I would like someone to come out and explain it, bet they won't...
I will let the conspiracy theorists go to work on that one

Re: Refereeng
Largely excellent refereeing in every game so far this tournament right up until England's game. Extremely poor from the Columbian ref, and honestly what are the parameters for using VAR? Why have all those blokes sitting there looking like a bunch of John Terrys in their full ref kits if none of them are going to have a word in the refs shell when he's missed a clear pen?

Re: Refereeng
I thought the ref in the Brazil/Switzerland game was poor - he allowed far too many cynical fouls to go
unpunished. By way of contrast Behrami, at 33, gave a DM master-class against one of the world's best players without continually chopping him down.
As for VAR -there was a clear push by the Swiss goalscorer. Add that to the 2 pens England should have
had and I'm beginning to think that the PL got it right when the decided to defer its introduction.
The ref last night was beyond biased (imho)

Re: Refereeng
That wasn't a clear push, that was jostling for space and the Brazilian defender being a little pussy. If you give fouls for that you might as well make football a non contact sport.uptonparkhurst wrote:As for VAR -there was a clear push by the Swiss goalscorer.

All the pundits, bar Slav, reckoned it was a push (and he said it was a 50/50 decision).sendô wrote: That wasn't a clear push, that was jostling for space and the Brazilian defender being a little pussy. If you give fouls for that you might as well make football a non contact sport.
Also, I think you'll find he is a rather large pussy.

I can't really believe that FIFA have brought var in to 'control' games BUT the opportunity is certainly there, if they wanted to. Refs deliberately not seeing something & then var not getting back to them. VERY suspect.DasNutNock wrote:FIFA + Russia. Hardly "NASA ****ed the moon landings" territory to question their integrity
Even a Scot, Ally McCoist, couldn't understand Kane not getting those pens. Not that you could ever accuse AM of being very anti-English, mind.

I absolutely without a doubt believe fifa have brought in VAR to control more of the games. it will become more apparent as the tournament progresses.Samba wrote: I can't really believe that FIFA have brought var in to 'control' games BUT the opportunity is certainly there, if they wanted to.
