Re: Liverpool v West Ham Utd: match thread (12/8/18)
From bbc:-
Ukraine winger Andriy Yarmolenko is struggling to be fit because of ongoing hip and thigh issues.
I have a feeling he is gonna be a sicknote.

I love what I saw of Balbuena first up pre season, but I really worry about his pace against Liverpool.
I think that, given Yarmo is unlikely, I'd be tempted with something like:
Adrian
Fredericks Diop Ogbonna Masuaku
Noble Rice Dirty Sanchez
Wilshere
Arnie Anderson

 Lack of width up front and gung ho fullbacks filling the gaps would leave Diop and Oggy massively exposed, even with Rice dropping in they would be torn to pieces by Liverpool’s front line!Awooga_Iron wrote:I love what I saw of Balbuena first up pre season, but I really worry about his pace against Liverpool.

Wilshere is going to be well up for this.
This is the start of the road back to international recognition.

Upsets can happen on the opening weekend - Liverpool are fully expected to win , there'll be no pressure on us at all - we're a completely different outfit to the one they beat last season and I wouldn't be surprised if we go there and win once more - The Pellegrini Effect .

Really?! . That gives far more protection to the back 4 than any of the previous guesses to start the first game. We can only play 11 players, you can't play 5-5-5.Blow Bubbles wrote:  Lack of width up front and gung ho fullbacks filling the gaps would leave Diop and Oggy massively exposed
4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 (4-1-2-3) is clearly our preferred option but we're likely to get torn a new one at Liverpool whatever. 4-1-2-3 we'll get destroyed.
Re: Liverpool v West Ham Utd: match thread (12/8/18)
If Yarmolenko isn't fit I'm hoping for something like:
Adrian
Fredericks Balbuena Ogbonna Masuaku
Rice
Wilshere Noble
Anderson
Perez Arnautovic
Gone are the days of 3 defensive-minded midfielders and a isolated striker craning his neck as hopeless punts fly towards him every time we play a decent team, let's (at least try) to take the game to them.

Re: Liverpool v West Ham Utd: match thread (12/8/18)
Anderson/Antonio is going to play side right I reckon, try to peg back Robertson...we need pace to make sure that either of their FB's stay pegged back a bit or we will get overrun ......
Their midfield is also good on pressing and retaining possession and/or winning it back high up the field...
If we can't find a way to push the FB's back at least some, things will get tough to break out of our own half...

Feels so good to have quality in our squad depth now. We're no longer have to try to force fit the likes of Fernandez, Antonio, Byram etc. on the Wings - players that aren't natural Wingers or don't fit the style or profile of our play, instead we can call upon the likes of Perez to cover.Puff Daddy wrote: No probs. 1 day to go and cant wait. heres hoping for a shock and we can do it but unlikely.
yarmolenko doubtful so in comes Antonio
Adrian
fredericks diop ogbonna cresswell
noble rice
Antonio wilshere Anderson
arnautovic
subs fabianski zabaleta Balbuena masuaka obiang perez Hernandez
some good players on the bench
if we can match their fullbacks and strikers for pace we can do this. would take a draw now obviously as this is the hardest game we will have all season.
1-0 cockney boys with the claret and blue army in full voice for 90 mins and the team at full throttle for 90 mins.
a famous victory is coming !

I dreamt last night that we lost 3-1. Antonio scored for us.

Who played in goal? Did Wilshere play O.K.? What were the possession stats?Monkey Mike wrote:I dreamt last night that we lost 3-1. Antonio scored for us.

Did find it curious how motivated Dortmund were to shift him on. Must be the fastest deal we've completed in years. Injury issues would help explain it.Vienna wrote: Ukraine winger Andriy Yarmolenko is struggling to be fit because of ongoing hip and thigh issues.

Antonio historically plays well against Pool so not the worst game for him to miss out on.
I don't agree that it's a free hit – it's certainly ok for us to lose, but to come away on the end of a hiding ala last season's opener would be disastrous for the season ahead. I couldn't call the result of this fixture, but a blow out seems just as likely as every other outcome – Liverpool have been comfortably dispatching better sides than us in pre-season.

So no Antonio or yarmalenko, excellent! Perez out on the right then?
Shame as I fancied Antonio in this one. Usually scores.

As much as I rate Rice as a center half I can see him being taught a thing or 2 if he starts in midfield
I reckon thisll be a comfortable win for Liverpool which isnt a big deal. The main worry is people flapping over it and not realising that our team wont evolve overnight

Antonio and Yarmo not fit? Thought Pellegrini said everyone was bar Reid, Lanzini and Carroll?
