We can both play devils advocate all we like but all it will do is create more hysteria around what for me is a non story that gathers pace with each great game the lad has.
I have every confidence that Rice will soon sign a new and improved contract with us. He seems to be very happy at West Ham, we are giving him game time and bringing him on as a player.
Best to focus on his performances and wait for the inevitable good news on his contract.
Exactly - there are probably countless contract situations similar to this in football, but we ourselves seem to be contributing to generating more attention than it merits.

This isnt actually possible as Rice has played for Ireland he has to now go and ask Fifa to be able to play for England, while Rice wasn't in a competitive game he still has to ask for permission and i believe it can take many months.
Times reports it a bit more “Yes, I’m definitely going to sign, probably”.
“I want to sign for West Ham and I think it is going to happen,” he says. “Playing every week is what is best for me at the moment and hopefully the contract can come soon.”
DECLAN RICE has revealed for the first time he is set to sign a new contract at West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Metro, the teenage midfielder, who has reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea, said: ‘I love West Ham to pieces and the contract is going to be sorted out — we’ve been speaking about it for a while.
‘I’m not really bothered about what other clubs are interested. I’m just focused on playing for West Ham.
‘The manager (Manuel Pellegrini) says I need to keep improving and that will come, and that’s my take on it.
‘I’ve just got to keep playing, keep my feet on the ground and I will end up signing another contract at West Ham.’
He speaks very highly of Noble and Pellegrini in the full article in the paper.
