Little things that irritate you

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

Kilkenny Castle, Canning Town. 1986. Waiting for train from Custom House to Hackney Wick (or Central?). Pint - missed train - pint- missed train - pint - missed train- pint and finally train. It kind of went on. Every week. Occured to me later that I used to play gigs in that pub only 3 years before. Pint-missed train-pint-missed train...

Drove to our new Doctors' Surgery yesterday to deliver some forms so that we could order prescriptions online and our son's application to register with them - they rejected my wife's online paperwork even though I'd taken her passport saying she had to deliver it in person , same went for my boy .

I then went to the Post Office to withdraw some money from my savings' account only for the card to be retained - the same thing had happened a couple of weeks' ago as I had taken an old card by mistake , this time I was sure I'd taken the new one - by now I was bloody fuming !

I had to go home to register my complaint but the computer which answered the phone told me the line was busy ! :)

Grrrrrrr !

The common cold. I swear I've popped more pills over the weekend than Pete Doherty and I still feel terrible.

I broke a molar a while ago and the dentist elected to extract it today "as a precaution".

What was supposed to be a routine ten minute job turned into a two hour marathon which involved grinding down the bone of my gum to retrieve shattered pieces of tooth, and indescribable pain as the dentist 'discovered' an abscess that didn't respond to anaesthetic.

I'm currently off my fanny on a hippo's dose of opioid analgesics, but when they wear of I feel I might indeed be a little irritated.

My silly old goat of a dad believing he is protecting us, somehow, by refusing to discuss a (probably serious) health matter with my sister and I. He knows we know something's up, but he appears to think it's a matter of pride that he keeps the details to himself, and that by not telling us, he's sparing us the concern. We don't even know if it's him or mum that's unwell, but since they're both in their mid-70s, it's hardly as if it comes as a massive surprise.

Bloody idiot. And now I can't stop worrying because of what I DON'T know, precisely the opposite of what he's trying to achieve by being stoic.

Suppose that’s not really a “little thing”, is it.

Not at all.
Perhaps part of him (by not talking about it), can also pretend it's not really happening.
No help to you & your sister though.

^^^ sorry to hear that Dan. We're all guilty at times of burrying out heads in the sand. Maybe this is his way of coping? Like Samba says, doesn't help you and your sis.

I get the impression they're waiting to get all the information before they tell me, but TBH, it just underscores how emotionally backwards my dad is. Fair enough, an 8 year old doesn't need to know every detail of their parent's health matters, but I'm 43, my dad's 73, and I'm aware that people don't live forever.

DNL, sorry to hear that mate, but he really needs to disclose all. Without being a harpinger of doom, it could be something you & your siblings should look out for in yourselves that is hereditary. I hope it isn't, & it all works out for you.
